Pulled a runner apart for inspection before doing an engine swap. Found a magnet retainer, bolt broken that ate the oil funnel. Looking for a good oil tube. Shipped to 49431 MI.

Magneto still functional?
Large funnels are available new from our parts vendors.
I prefer new, as used ones will typically have dents & creases to help clog the tube.

Sadly no, “minor” damage but still damage. It cut one of the leads off of a coil. Still on the the fence weather I rewind it now or just patch it until this engine gets a rebuild.

It's exposed now - easier to replace than patch.

Fix it properly. A rebuild might be a long ways away.

Hello Robert,
I am going to give advice like others above, but based on recent experience. I suggest you do a complete magneto rebuild which should include but not limited to:
1) Replace the magneto ring with a rebuilt unit. The existing unit is past its useful life. very few people have the resources to rebuild them themself.
2) Remove all magnets from the fly wheel and check for cracked magnets. I found 4 cracked magnets in my recent rebuild. When one breaks, and they have, it can cause MAJOR and expensive damage.
3) Replace all brass mounting screws. Original ring gears and new ring gears use different size brass screws.
4) Replace all original cast magnet support spools with new machined aluminum spools. Original cast spools crumble.
5) Individually recharge all magnets.
I hope this gives you some additional information so you can make the correct decision for yourself on how to proceed.
Terry

If you buy a new reproduction large funnel tube from the vendors, check the joint between the funnel and the tube. I have broken two of the spot welds just positioning the bolt hole on the bracket. As a matter of course, I now braze the funnel to the tube.
