Got this dash panel and need to fill the large hole with a speedo, but I'm not interested in a working one, just one to fill the hole. parade ready condition. And, the light will not get used, so I'm looking for the cover or shield for this fixture. Let me know what you got and what you want. Shipping to Winston, Ga 30187.

Robert, Duncan and Fraser, Adelaide Ford distributors and body builders simply screwed a round plate over the speedo hole if a customer elected not o have a speedo.

Good point. I was also thinking some other military related instrument like a compas or data plate that would cover that hole. The M38 '50's era military jeep had a plate of data plates screwed over a large hole in the dash that, when removed, allowed acess behind the instrument panel. I found a "vintage" moped speedometer that might fit and only goes up to 35 mph which I thought would be era correct..

The first question that came to my mind when reading your post, was what diameter hole is in the dash? A Stewart 180 takes a different size hole than a Stewart 490, or an AC.

A photo of the hole would be helpful as they were several different speedometer heads offered, also is it a wood or metal dash, if wood how thick? George

The blanking plate can be made to suit! The Dand F ones used metal thread screws through the same holes used when a speedo was fitted.

I'm sorry, I thought I mentioned the hole size and a pic and realized that that information was supplied on the "Help ID " thread on the GD board. My bad. The hole size is 3 1/2" in diameter with a small rectangular tab slot at the six oclock position where there is a small split in the panel that will get welded up if I end up using it.
This is a metal panel that will be attached to a wooden cowl that I need to create to transition from my wood firewall/hood former to replicate a metal cowl appearance. Another story on another thread. So, I can attach this panel to my wooden cowl frame in any fashion such as wood screws. The steering column blamp will be mostly cosmetic and s my 27 steering column is attached to my wood firewall/hoood former with the angled welded on bracket and carriage bolts.

Hope this helps. I do not feel any mounting screw holes for a former speedo installation.

Most likely an AC speedometer head was in the hole - they have 2 studs on the rear & a bar type holder. The dash lamp appears to be an original Ford accessory lamp - measure the "minor" diameter- I have some assorted covers.

Can I presume that a Stewart Speedometer will fit the same hole? Just different mounting methods?

Stewart's had their own mounting bracket/plate held onto the dash with 3 ? small machine screws & nuts - you'd see the holes.

Found accessory light, but still need non working Stewart or AC speedometer to fill 3 1/2" hole. Let me know if you have something decent looking, but non functional to serve this purpose.

This might work for you. SW Mod 160 the outer rim on the speedo is 3 1/2", the diameter of the bracket hole is 3 1/4". You will have to slightly modify the hole in your dash. The MTFCA Speedometer book has cutting templates in the back of the book for the SW 160. Speedo, bracket and USPS shipping $40.00. If interested email me through the club site.

email sent. I think this will work. Even if I have to fabricate some sort of spacer to go between speedometer bezel and dash hole.

Trying to figure out how to mount square speedo into round hole. Well, not exactly, received a Stewart speedo with a mounting plate and would like to install it for appearance only. Round hole in metal dash has no drilled holes, so I know some drilling is in my future. But, speedo has offset odometer reset knob that needs to be accounted four. There is a faceplate/bezel that may come off the speedo and than reinstalled after passing the sppedo through the back of the metal panel. But I'm just not picturing how this speedo gets sandwiched with the mounting plate and the detal dash panel and in what order do items get installed?
I can remove the dash panel from the firewall and mount on the bench and it will not be functional. But I don't want to start prying apart glass and bezels that should not be pryed apart.
Any guideance appreciated . I can take a pick of the speedo and mounting plate, but this dash panel in this thread is what I am using.

Remove the the nickle bezel & the trip odometer external parts (don't need since speedo is for looks) to see how things will fit in the bracket or the dash. You can make an L shaped bracket to hold the speedo to the dash or bracket using the screw positions that were for the nickle bezel
