I have been selling a few items on this forum lately.
All of my transactions went as expected.
The person contacted me.
I got their address.
I determined shipping and let them know the total.
They PayPaled me the money.
I shipped the item.
Easy peasy - except for one item.

The 15-16 Door Latch.

This guy (FREDERIQUE GOLDNER) was slow to respond after his initial contact.
He would not give me his address - only his zip code.
I quoted flat rate shipping to his zip code.
He said he did not have PayPal - would I take a check?
I said yes.
A day goes by and he send me the following email :

"hello my wife send out check to your address, you should have it in two days time
she wrote $1600 on the check instead of $60 but i want to trust you can handle that you take out your $60 from the money when it clears...and pls kindly make a refund of $1500 to when you have the money.......... pls notify me when you have the check delivered to you "

So being the concerned person I am, I emailed him back :

"Hi Frederique,

Your check will be shredded upon arrival to protect you.
Would you like the shredded remains of your check returned to you so you can
issue a new check in the correct amount?

Bob"

I don't expect to hear from him again.
If I do, I will continue this saga.

Same thing happened to me awhile back. Check was from a furniture store in Illinois but the buyer was in Florida. I called the furniture store and spoke to the owner and he said someone tried to cash a check the week before for $4,500 and I sent him all the info from the scammer but I'm sure nothing will ever become of it, too bad.

I've been in the same boat, they tried to pull this on me too. Do they really still make any profit from this? And isn't it tiring for them to keep doing it? They have to send out thousands hoping someone will fall for it. Why bother with such nonsense if by checking the list of cash app casino you can get enough free money. You just choose casinos that accept cash app what suits you, spend time having fun and don’t deceive anyone. I don't understand why make life harder for yourself and others.

I was selling parts on Craigslist for a modern car several years ago. I was contacted almost as soon as the ad listed from someone in California. The “opps, we sent the wrong amount” scam was on. Demanding that I refund the difference. I did receive the fake money order. I took it to my bank and they confirmed it was a fake. There is a database of this stuff. The check number was tied to over one million dollars of fraud. The California buyer had a Texas bank on the check and a Wisconsin mailing address. After explaining he was free to pick up and purchase with cash, which he declined, he threatened violence. The FBI, Postmaster general and local authorities had no interest in any of this. After days of threats, he said he was coming to get the item. I told him to bring cash and the police are looking forward to talking to him about the fraudulent check and threats. He finally stop contacting me after about 10 days. I still have the fake money order as a souvenir.

These scammers bet on people not taking the time to check them out and resort to bulling to steal our money. In reality they are keyboard pirates whose bark is far worse than their bite.
I had 10 days of fun jerking him around wasting his time for my entertainment. I did eventually sell the part locally for more than I had originally listed it for.
