I have some been pressed on to the spindle for probably a century, how do you remove them without destroying them ??
I don’t know why I turned out this way. My parents were decent people.

George,
Some light heat and it should come off. If your spindle have the full round flange they are a little more difficult to get off. The later spindle with the flat edge flanges are easier to get off. If it's all pitted up, don't waste your time on trying to save it.
