I am searching for the Stevens Front axle facing tool that is used
to reface the inside yoke surfaces. The inside surfaces of the front axle yoke wear and this tool is used to file them perpendicular to the king pin. Please contact me through the forum email. Thank you, Jack

Heres the tool I use. Got the idea from Dan Hatch.

Richard, thank you for your reply. I am hoping to remake the original tool, I am not trying to repair an axle. I believe I made the Steven's tool you show in your picture

Jack,
If you do make the tool for sale like your Reaming Fixture Frames, I will definitely buy one, not just saying' I'll even pre-pay. I use a reverse spot-facer and it works, but an original or quality reproduction would be very much appreciated. Here are a couple of photos from the Forum showing it in use (for those not in the know) and a link to a complete axle rebuild. As far as I know it is not shown in the Stevens catalog.

Jack. The photos posted above are my refacer. I may have the only one left ??. I have never seen another. I do not want to sell mine, but would consider a short term loan if it would help you getting them made. I use it fairly often so it can only be loaned for a short time. The main issue I see is the cutter is extremely hard. Properly making it would be the key to having a useable tool. It really does not "cut" as it re-faces but "scrapes" the surface smooth. It makes extremely fine shavings and must be cleaned very often as it's being used. The cam and the handle would also need to be very hard because they are under a lot of pressure when in use. But they probably are not as hard as the cutter. Send me a message if you want to discuss it.

No, there are at least two survivors. This one is NOS.

Search "Used my rare Stevens front axle re-facer today"
Donnie Brown posted a dimensioned drawing of the tool you seek.
I reproduced one from it. Thanks Donnie.

If you reproduce parts, I would be interested in a cutter. I didn't get a proper hardening on mine.

John can’t you reharded the piece and then temper it again?

I tried a second harden. Didnt take. I should have used a hardening tool steel. I used a chunk of axle.

And the search continues. There must be a survivor available somewhere.
