What is missing in the empty spot?

Photos would help. Jack the empty spot is probably for the aluminum cook kit or storage. There is nothing missing if it is a large or medium Tourist Kitchenette. I have not seen photos yet. But sounds like a large or medium size Tourist Kitchenette. The large tourist Kitchenette can use a 6 person cook kit but the medium Kitchenette will use a 4 person aluminum cook kit. The cook kits are one of the bucket/pot style with plates, different size pots, lid and handle makes a fry pan, cups, and coffee pot. The cook kits did not come with the kitchenette, but I have seen several with them . The dish pan drawer seems sized to fit the cook kits ..

I really love this Tourist Kitchenette!
If you search the form, you will see where I discuss redoing the decals. Here is a video of the process I followed:

It took me a lot of time to work on mine, but I really enjoyed the outcome. Unfortunately, most of these need to be repainted. The waterslide decals was really helpful.
Buyer beware: I blame it for getting involved in other vintage camping stuff. Here’s a recent video of camping in Tahoe:

I have researched the history and would like to make a short video about it. It’s actually really interesting. It will just take me some time.
I hope it finds a good home. You are not too far from me.
