Wanted. Usable non demountable rear wheel for my 1921.
I am in need of a usable non demountable rear wheel for my 1921. Improper storage and dry rot killed the one on it.

Chris, as far as know, with non demountable wheels, the make of rim does not matter. Bob may have missed that you require a NON demountable wheel. With demountables, there are differences which need to be taken into account.
I presume for 1921, the wooden felloe needs to be the square type. The felloes do have differences, but these do not affect their use.

I am pretty sure the '21 mostly had the square felley non-demountable wheels. Rears should be 30X 3 1/2, fronts should be 30X3. Although square felley wheels supposedly began on Ts about 1918, there is some evidence that cars as late as '21 may have still had the "round" (rounded) felley wheels. There were also a steel felley style wheel used on some Fords during the 1920s. These had formed and pressed together (maybe welded?) rim and felley in one piece, all steel. They are nice, and the other nice thing about them is that new spokes can be pressed in much in the same manner as the demountable wheels can be done. Spokes may have to be by special order, the fronts are about a half inch longer than the rears, and the rears I think are slightly longer than the common available 30X3 1/2 demountable wheel spokes are. I say "I think" because I never actually measured them, but by my eye they look like they would need to be just a tad longer.
Researchers disagree on when the steel felley non-demountable wheels were used. Some researchers have found "change orders" in Ford's records indicating their use at various times during the '20s. Some researchers are convinced they were in use by 1922, others believe around '24 or '25. Others have found records indicating that the wood felley wheels were to no longer be used after some mid-'20s date. I can't claim to be the ultimate expert on this. However, many years ago, I was privileged to see a lot of original factory photos in a private collection. This was many years before the internet, and even before much of what is in the Benson Ford archive was available to be seen. Among the many photos, were several photos of 1926 Ts with square wooden felley wheels on them. And these were factory photos of then brand new cars. The fellow who's collection it was, also had copies of original sales orders/receipts noting the use of non-demountable wheels on cars sold well into '26.

The felloe is that part on the outer circumference of the wheel onto which the rim is fitted. On a non demountable wheel the felloe is wooden. On demountable wheels the felloe is a steel ring. You can choose how you spell it!!!

Back in the early 70s my first model T was a 1921 center door came out of a estate from the daughter of the original owners. What I'm getting at is it had 30 by 3 and 1/2 new mountable wheels pictures of it from when it was new those that always been on it

My last post should say demountable wheels there's had always been on the car from the day it was new when I bought the car also had pictures of it from 1921

Obviously your car was not the "Bottom of the line" car like mine. No starter, generator, battery, tail light, Non De-mountable wheels.

All closed cars, basically the coupe and any of the three types of sedans, had demountable wheels from about January 1919 onward. Open cars, basically all touring cars and the runabouts or roadsters, had options for the wheels to the end of model T production. How many options, and the exact details changed a bit over the years from 1919 through 1927. All center-door sedans produced for 1921 should have had demountable wheels from the factory when new. The wheels on a '21 sedan may have been either the common "fixed" lug type? Or the "loose" lug type. But that either or was not generally an order option. It was just wheels supplied to the Ford factory by different wheel manufacturers. Henry did not like to be locked into a single supplier, so he bought most components from a few different companies. One large supplier made the loose lug design, while Ford factory made wheels and at least two other suppliers made fixed lug type.
