FS Rebuilt Twin High Transmission

Post by Henry K. Lee » Thu Aug 22, 2019 11:12 am

Here's an odd duck, a Twin High. These were made from my understanding by an aircraft engineer who over did it. Meaning unaffordable, he used aviation grade bearings (Shafer's) and everything else. The inside is quite impressive as it uses a sliding planetary gear system with no neutral. Had to replace the original bearings on one of the shafts due to etching with modern design. Looks to had a repair once upon a time, but is sound. Has it's own built in forth main bearing with reverse spiral groove.

These were an under drive/direct drive unit, so using in under drive, then using your Model T transmission in low then Model T high, and the shifting to direct it acted as a three speed. Or no more pulling a hill with a sore foot in low, but pulling the hill at 25 mph. A very unique accessory vs a Ruxstell.

$1,250.00 plus shipping. Email if interested.

They would have made a Direct-Overdrive Version as well - Yes ?

Hi Guys, I'm in the Model A world these days but heard about this tranny so had to join the forum and comment. I have exactly the same passenger car version of this Twin High, but mine needs a rebuild. I never thought I'd see another one; amazing. Mine shows the same model number of 202002. The serial of mine is 1825; what is the serial number of this one? The Twin High company is better known for their rear mounted TT and AA aux. trannys; it seems to me they sold many of the rear mounted ones. I think Royce on the old forum mentioned he knew someone who had one of these front mounted ones...I wonder how many more are out there? It's an alloy case so it's quite light so it would suit a speedster...I really don't think you need a support although the tranny is designed to be used with one. A bloke in MI sold me this, it was in his father's collection when he passed. I already have a fully rebuilt Moore aux. tranny waiting to be fitted to my T so I don't really need this Twin High, so if the buyer of the rebuild one in this thread wants another for spares (from memory the gears in mine are in very good condition); or if someone else would like an interesting project let me know. Cheers.

Mandylas,

The number on the rebuilt Twin High is 1919, serial 202002 as you said. I'll send you an email about yours.

Terry
