Re: clock
Bob, it was a Waltham stem wind car clock. The back screws off and the hole which was soldered closed, took a stud and wingnut to fix it to a metal dash. I just love the sound of the mechanism as it works. They are delightful pieces.
Mine comes with a funny story. I bought it from an antique store in Pratt when we attended a rally based in Great Bend. I wound it and carried it around with me while we checked out the store. By the time we went to pay for our purchases it had stopped and would not restart, so I asked for a reduced price so I could have it checked out later. My offer, less than the proprietor's husband had paid for it she said, was accepted," seeing it was going all the way to Australia!"
Well, the next customer fronted the counter with her clothing purchases. She asked for the same discounted price, based on her going home to Australia. Somehow her accent didn't quite fit the bill, but it got a good laugh all round.
Allan from down under.
