WTB coil tester
I've never had a coil tester, but with all the T's and parts that are here I feel like I should get one. What's out there? I'm in Western PA.

My Dad built one from an old coil box it works well not as good as the fancy ones but we must have done something right car starts on one flip of the crank free starts all the time and bone stock will do 45 miles an hour . the plans for this were in the vintage Ford in the late 60s early 70s . Engine performance depends upon ignition timing NOT coil current! The Electronically Cranked Coil Tester (ECCT) is the only Model T coil tester that permits you to adjust each coil for equal and consistent firing Time by actually measuring coil firing Time. Even experienced folks who experience the difference between coils adjusted by coil current (HCCT) versus firing time (ECCT) agree it makes a remarkable difference in engine smoothness and power. I have rebuilt 11 HCCTs and sold 9 of them, none for over $800.
That is a Service Station Equipment model.
I sold this one for $800, after having the meter rebuilt, having a set of stand-off insulators machined, repairing the Mag coil ring, replacing the wood, buying a new set of coil contacts, having all the iron bead blasted and then painting it, and charging the magnets.
That was less than half the cost of the parts alone!
That is a Service Station Equipment model.

That ring is from an Allen HCCT.

I have a ECCT and have rebuilt a couple dozen coils using it. I am an electrical engineer so naturally I love tech and gadgets. This is not a gadget but a great tool that allows you to tune and optimize your coils. Believe me I would love to find a HCCT that needs restoring just to have a piece of history and to play with. Just because something is "vintage" doesn't mean there isn't a better way to accomplish your goal, that's called progress. The ECCT is a great example of that. Just because you can doesn't mean you have too! The last two T's I have adopted ran good with the coils that came in them. I pulled the coils and tested them in the ECCT and discovered the caps were failing and the current and timing were off. Again, the cars ran what most would say as "fine". I replaced the coils cleaned the contacts (most don't need replaced just cleaned and adjusted) on the ECCT and it woke those cars up. They start easier, I get free starts often and there isn't any hesitation on acceleration that we all write off because it's 100 years old. It's not a magic pill but I'm telling you that it sure helps with some of those mystery problems. It allows Henry's car to function as it should even being 100 years old. No I am not a paid promoter of this product just a convinced user that it is worth using. Yes you can get great results using the HCCT but I think you can get better results with the ECCT. Yes you can spend more time than you need to getting that dam coil just right but I am a little OCD with some things lol. Craig, Your best bet if you want to adjust your coils and have the best performance from them in your Model T's is to get one of the ECCT's.
It's modern tech to the extreme and will definitely make a difference in how you car performs. I love the old HCCT's and respect the vintage look and history.
Sort of like using a code reader in your modern car today if you know what I mean..
