1923-24 Coupe Body

Post by Alex Dragone » Fri Dec 27, 2019 9:54 am

This is a 1923 or 1924 coupe body that I am posting for a friend. Its in decent condition and is very complete. This is the type that has the rear quarter windows that go up and down which I believe was a feature of the 1923-24 cars. The dash is even complete with the original Stewart speedometer. This would be a great body to restore and put back on a car. Its located here in Connecticut. Asking $800.

Hey Alex:

Are the door's structure wood or steel? If wood framing/structure I think 23-24. If steel I believe 1925.
Best regards,
Jonathan Bodine

Hi Jonathan, Thanks for the info! The doors are framed in wood so definitely 23-24.

Not a '23. '23's were low firewall and had suicide doors. I do believe it is a '24, it has the '24 style windshield finger pulls along with the wood framed doors. There are other minor differences between the'24-'25 years, but I don't recall them now. Dave

We often say 23-24 because the 1924 closed cars were introduced in late '23.
It is interesting to see a coupe with all the interior and exterior moldings in place as well as the door and window hardware. Doors and trunk lids are often hard to find. It seems like a bargain even if the wood has to be replaced.
I hope it finds a good home. It could be a great project.
When did I do that?

I have to agree with Rich, finding all that trim is a job and then some.

One other thing that I thought of that dates this as a '24 is the belt line molding. '24s have a separate aluminum (?) molding, such as this one has, the '25 moldings are part of the upper portion of the body and overlap the lower portion at the belt line. Dave

That’s a really good body to restore because most if not all the hard to find parts such as the window risers, body molding, seat risers, door locks, handles and window trim pieces are still with it. They don’t show up like this very often any more. These parts are not being reproduced and are extremely hard to find them if at all.
Most of the Coupe bodies have been gutted but not this one. Amazing find!

Anyone? I can’t believe no one wants this body, especially for the price. How about $750?

Alex, the problem with Coupes and Roadsters are most people want to haul more than one person with them, it is a whole lot more fun having some one in the back seat on a tour to have a good time with. I own a 25 coupe that I have never finished for that reason and have not been able to get rid of it also. Just my thoughts??
