OT or not- my pet peeve about posts

Post by thom » Wed May 29, 2019 9:24 pm

Guys (and or gals) two things that are really annoying, pictures posted sideways and upside down and videos with wind noise. Let's all try harder.

The sideways and upside down photos is a FORUM ISSUE, not especially how people are posting them.

I had a cat named Peeve when I was a kid. He literally was my pet Peeve.

I also had a dog that I named Dammit. My mom hated the name and tried to make me call him Curly. I refused. My dad called him Curly when my mom was in earshot, but when she wasn’t, he and his hot rod buddies delighted in saying...”Dammit, get over here” or “You’re a good boy, Dammit”. I’d stand at the end of the driveway at night to call him in and would yell, “Dammmmittttt, Dammmitttt c’mere boy!” I think it made my mom’s hair turn gray prematurely.

Peeve the cat was meaner than hell and would purposefully torment any dog at any time. I guess that made him the pet peeve of the local dog population as well.

The sideways photos seem to be mostly a phone picture phenomenon. I find that if a photo shows up sideways in preview I can just delete it from the post, rotate it on my computer, and repost it. So far that always gets it straight.

You may reduce or eliminate wind noise when shooting video by keeping a foam cover over the microphone.

Since I am left handed, a lot of my cell phone photos are upside down.

With all of this wonderful modern technology, you would think that those high dollar, high tech phones or whatever would be able to post pictures right side up, or at last be able to let you know that they won't be before you post them. Then, there should be a way to change them if they aren't correct. We put a man on the Moon in 1969, and now we can't even post photos correctly? I say we, but I really mean you, I can't post them anyway! ;) ;) Dave

Pictures from California are right side up. Pictures from Europe are 90 degrees clockwise and from eastern U.S. are 45 degrees clockwise. Hawaii are 45 degrees counter clockwise and those from Japan are 90 degrees counter clockwise and those from Austrailia are upside down.

Of course that is from my point of view. I'm sure that in all those places they think we are either left, right, or upside down!!!!!!

Preview So As Not To “ Pee -Vue “

You can “ preview “ before you post.

You can “ edit “ after you post for a short period of time.

If you don’t preview or post - be advised you stand to suffer “ The Wrath Of thom “ ...... :!:

Not to be confused with “ The Wrath Of Khan “
which showcased Ricardo Montalban’s wide range of acting talent .... :?

Well, I see the forum police are alive and well. I'd venture to guess that if we obeyed EVERYONE'S wishes regarding their pet peeves, we couldn't post JACK!

Why don't we include making sure you know the difference and how to use "there, their, and they're" and "two, to, and too". And don't say "are" when you mean "our" and don't confuse "then and than".

Oh, and if you know you're post is OT, let's put it in the OT section, not in the General section with a statement about how you know it's OT, but you're putting it here anyway.

How's that?

And to deal with the wind noise the faux fur is the best way to reduce and break up the wind. Most people use their cellphone and the built in microphone has some limitations in windy conditions. You can cover the microphone with a cotton ball to act as a wind screen. Simply get a cotton ball and tape it lightly over the microphone and the wind noise disappears.

If you preview your post and the picture is not oriented correctly, how do you turn it? Is there a function on the forum?

Hal, bean their done that. It's easyer then you thingk.

If your photo shows up wonky in Preview, delete it. Open it on your computer. Rotate it. Click Save. Post it. If it was wrong here but it's right side up on your computer, rotate it anyway. You can turn it 360º, or go 90º left then 90º right (or vice versa). Click Save. Post it. That always works for me. I've never had one refuse to straighten up.

Most often, I post from my "telephone" (?!?). Mainly because I take all of my photos with my "telephone" these days. I have noted that while the new forum setup allows me to post them without re-sizing, the full size image will appear sideways, and I have no options to dink with the image. However, if I use the resize "app" which I used to use when posting pix to the old forum, the photo will appear right side up.

As for peeves, I'm pretty sure the forum readership really doesn't give a rat's patootie whether I am annoyed at something or totally blissful. I'm just thankful for pleasant "conversation" and the interesting posts. One thing I do know, "auto correct" is entirely clueless regarding the bent my vocabulary and terminology normally takes, and not a day goes by that I don't wrangle with it !! (and I am gonna proof-read this note. All my mistakes are carefully planned !! )

Hal, let's make sure and mention those who don't know the difference between breaks and brakes. That drive me nuts.
