Forum failure this AM - we caught it.

Post by AdminJeff » Fri Jan 18, 2019 11:11 am

We know the site went down this AM. I was actually monitoring it when it went down so I have lots of data for the ultra-techie Linux support geeks to pour over. We're trying to track down the root cause. It's a thorny issue. Rest assured both ChrisB and I are all over this.

Sorry for the delay in getting it back online this AM. Sometimes you need to keep the system in a failed state so you can do forensic analysis and figure out why its happening. I can assure everyone we'll only do that when absolutely necessary and get it back online ASAP. I personally know how addicting these forums are at 3AM!!

I'm going to take one for the team here. if you notice the site go down, send me a TXT "MTFCA SITE DOWN" to Seven 0 Seven - 532-5773
Please only send me a txt only if you get this parrticular error when trying to access the site:
Greenshot 2019-01-18 08.04.08.png

pls don't do it at 3am... if that happens, email jeff at vinopro dot com or ChrisB.

For other support issues, we'll use the (working) forums for that.

Thanks, Jeff. I have added your phone to my contact list in the fervent hope that I will never have to use it. :D

Yes, its easy to fix - restart the server. The question is WHY? what is causing it? babysitting forums that thousands of folks use for crashes isn't fun... so we're on a search and destroy mission and we won't stop until we nail it.

Did someone install a filter on the forum when it was being set up? The internet is electrical but it seems 99% of electrical problems are actually fuel, after all...

The only filter we considered installing was the "Check if user is a little wacko before allowing posts" Filter. We opted to not install that filter since I wouldn't be able to post and help you guys.
