I do not get those boxes, No pencil icon. I get only 2 boxes. What do I need to do?

Ok, I'm vexed, very vexed. This one is ahead scratcher. I'm going to have to ask the phpbb gods who wrote this board what's going on...it may take a few days. I. Ok, this was an obscure setting and I just changed it. It should allow you to edit you posts now.
