MTFCA Members, registered members and guests
At the bottom of each page is a list of people currently on the forum. I am surprised by how few MTFCA Members are logged into the site.
Currently I see the following:
MTFCA Members. 2
Forum members. 8
Guests. 18
From this data, most of the people using the site are not MTFCA Members yet the site is solely supported and paid for by the MTFCA. I suppose the forum support by the club is given in the hope that some forum members and guests will join the MTFCA.
Let’s hope so as it currently is taking a great deal of the club resources to get this new forum up and running.
I urge the forum members and guests to consider supporting the host club by joining today.

Re: MTFCA Members, registered members and guests
Some of us still have the issue of not staying logged on! So I am sure there are many more members actually on at any one time. Every time I leave,
I would have to log back on next time. Even though I click the remember me box each time. No big deal!

Definitely not. I was always logged in on the old forum, but after the first couple of weeks on this one I've had to log in every time. Spending the extra three seconds is a major tragedy in my life.I asummed...that it was the same for everyone.

I think most registered members are also MTFCA members, myself included. Registered Members appears to be the default.

Re: MTFCA Members, registered members and guests
I believe being a member of the MTFCA has nothing to do with if you're a "MTFCA board member" on here. Administration has to upgrade you to a board member and you may have to request it ?
Then you'll have a black user name and be able to post in the vehicle classifieds, otherwise I don't believe it's of any benefit.
If you're already a MTFCA member...

On my tablet I have to log in every time I get on the forum. If I don't have anything to add i don't bother logging in, hence I'm a guest.

MTFCA membership has benefits well worth the annual dues even if you are far from a local chapter, and can't participate in club activities. I'd gladly pay dues just to support this online forum alone ! Thanks to all who help keep it up and running. It's a big job, and I really appreciate the effort that is put into it !

I meant not much HERE, to benefit from getting board member status other than vehicle classifieds and a black name
MTFCA membership is ABSOLUTELY worth it !!

Re: MTFCA Members, registered members and guests
The colors seem fairly meaningless.
Of the 8 names in blue so far on this thread, 5 are listed as MTFCA Members and 3 are not.
I guess before any conclusions can be drawn in the future, the list will need updating.
I assumed again that it was automatic. Wrong again.....

Re: MTFCA Members, registered members and guests
Dave H., no worries, I guess what I was trying to say is that I would consider access to the forum worth the cost of membership dues. No argument that MTFCA membership is a good deal. Like Jon, I didn't have my membership number handy when I logged onto the new forum. Some folks will appreciate the status that membership and board membership reflects. I would hope MTFCA members would see that opening this forum to the world is one of the best ways to promote not only MTFCA membership, but helpful good will among everyone who has an interest in the Model T Ford.

I also am a man in black but do not know for sure why. One thing I have noticed when I log in and the page with all the boards comes up on the bottom it tells who all is on the forum at that time, amongst them from time to time is a "hidden" I'm wondering what that is all about. Do we have the Secret Service on here or what. Jim

I haven't logged out/signed out for days. I'm not one of those below am I? Only one right now...
I missed a deadline but Maw has it sorted out now so I'm still an MTFCA member.
Interesting topic just the same. Did we all give our member number when we signed up? Or updated later? Key? Dunno.

As I understand it, administrators have to add you to the MTFCA member board on the forum...
Other than a black name and abilities to post on vehicle classifieds, it means nothing.

I just posted a comment on Lang's catalog. When I entered it, I looked at the bottom of the page and found several members names. When I just browse the forum, the names are not there. So apparently they only appear when someone posts.

If you're on classifieds, I don't think it shows here, but should on the main page.

I almost never log in and just read the posts. If I want to reply I have to log in. If I go to another post and want to reply I have to login again. Even though I click on the 'remember me' box, the system only remembers me for that particular post. So I am always a guest and I am a member of MTFCA and MTFCI, so my nickel is supporting this forum. Thanks to All the administrators for what they do.

Re: MTFCA Members, registered members and guests
Several points I would like to comment on.
There have been many discussions with the board of directors over the years to limit the forum to just members. The general consensus is that we will attract more members if we leave the forum open. Also education is a mandate of our 501c nonprofit organization and the forum furthers this.
The MTFCI decided several years ago to abandon their forum as ours can support the hobby just fine. The last few years there has been a lot less animosity between the two clubs, I think mainly because everyone realized we are both in the same business. I just thought it would be interesting to add the MTFCI Member group.
The members showing in BLACK are only updated if we are making a change to a user and see that they have entered a MTFCA #. Jeff is working on a script to update this but we have been busy with getting the board setup. Sometimes a user will make a complaint and then we find out that they are not even a member. Our forum our rules.
Yes the MTFCA fully funds the forum for the benefit of all people interested in the Model T. There have been discussions of how to get people to pay for the benefit of using the forum. This applies mainly to the classifieds. This is the reason behind charging for vehicle ads if you are not a member. Some members do make donations for the regular classifieds, but they are few and far between. If anyone has any ideas about how to shame people into helping support the classifieds let us know.
Any other questions please let us know.

Re: MTFCA Members, registered members and guests
I agree with the forum being free to all, both for its potential to attract members and because of its educational function. If I advertise a car for sale in OCW or Hemmings it will cost me money, so I have no problem with the charge for vehicle ads here.

Re: MTFCA Members, registered members and guests
I feel the classified section and the forum are both good for the hobby and a benefit to us all. To limit either to just members only would hurt us all by running off the non member who fell into a pile of Model T parts or even a whole car and has no interest in our hobby but want the parts to go to a good home where they can be used instead of going to the scrap pile. I feel it takes very little of my dues to pay for this site but the potential benefit in this case is well worth it. The MTFCA is doing very well from what I see and I have no problem with a non member posting a for sale add for free as long as it is Model T related even if they are posting the add on my dime. Think about it before you mess up a good thing here. I would hate to see that 1909 open valve block get scrapped because someone didn't want the seller to post it here for sale for $100 in a free add.
Give an old car guy a barn and he won't throw anything away.

I never clicked the button that says remember me! I have no issues having to login every time. Up until recently, my cell phone was not password protected, and I am thinking of taking it off as it drives me nuts, to have to enter a passcode to make a phone call. But then I do not bank or anything else on my phone. The most enjoyable thing they would find is this website.

FYI, if you click on "who's online", it will show you exactly where on the forum each registered user is.
And I still don't get logged of when closing out

Chris B,
Here is a suggestion to maybe bring in a bit more money for the club/forum :
Since there is a small charge to sell vehicles, how about opening it up to all collector/ specialty cars besides "T's. Many folks who like "T"s also like many different types of collector cars. This would enlarge the "Cars for sale" section, bringing in more traffic thus more money. To be clear, I am only advocating this be done in the "Cars for sale" section!
I still have to log on every time, but like Steve said...That 3 seconds that I will never get back is not a big deal! By the way, I am on a laptop w/ Windows 7. I don't use my phone to visit here. This is the only forum that I have a problem staying logged onto. Even the other ones that use this web format do not cause this to happen.
God Bless
Bill

John, you need to go to your control panel and enter your member number. Then it will show up under your name and location. And -THEN- the admins will eventually see it and flip the switch noting you are a member.John Codman wrote: ↑Thu Feb 14, 2019 9:33 amI'm a MFTCA member and my name is neither bold nor black.
