Fitting new glass

I am about to embark on fitting new glass to my 22 Runabout, the current glass appears to be normal plate glass and I want to replace it with safety glass. Can someone explain to me how the glass clamps attach to the filler blocks. On my car they are glued on and it appears that the screws have broken off. I notice that there are no less than 4 different types of screws that fit in there according to the Chaffins catalogue. Which one is correct and what are the thread specs? Anyone have a drawing how it all fits together?

Sounds like the windshield frame has been worked on before and someone forced the clamp screws and twisted the heads off. The filler blocks should slide in and out of the frame. But that depends how much they are rusted in. Over time that happens.
I have a 19 Roadster and a 21 Touring that I installed new glass in and on both frames the filler blocks on the sides of the frame were both stuck with rust.
I removed the glass then carefully heated the frame just enough and the blocks slowly began to move. You can use a penetrating oil besides heat. It’s up to you.
Carefully tap on the sides of the frame if necessary to loosen the blocks and they should begin to loosen and will slide out.

If your frame still has the nickel plated brass channel in it use some penetrating oil and it should come out. Be careful with it! You can polish it later.

That’s how I did my frames. Hope you still have the brass channel in it. Some shops would take it out and use some type of filler in it to seat the glass. Those folks didn’t know what they were doing if it was done that way. I can’t remember the size of the screws for the glass end clamps but Ace hardware has some that are pretty much identical. They are countersunk fine thread screws about a 1/2” long I believe.

This is what is going on there. I don't know what years used which screws but this one is a #12-24 x 1/2 lg steel screw. I have seen longer. That cap matches the '15-'22 in the catalog. Hopefully you can check your size with a tap in the filler block.
