I want one.......

Post by TonyB » Tue Feb 12, 2019 2:41 pm

I was looking thru the instructions on how to post pictures and found this.
Now that would be GREAT on the front of the Speedster, I want one
There are a couple of things about it that look a little odd. It seems to have an eight cylinder distributor, a water pump and an oil pump. Wow that would be fun but would the water pump get me banned from various speedster run? 😊😊

Tony, You would need to check with the event organizer or the posted rules for any of the speedster events. Some have been strict about no post '27 equipment in the past but may be more flexible now. Rules do vary some between the various groups as is their privilege. At one time in at least one group that distributor would not have been permitted but the water pump would have been as that appears to be an appropriate T era accessory front cover.

On second observation, the distributor on your photo might actually be early enough to qualify. My first look had me thinking it was a Nissan part like Steve and others have.

It's a period front plate and totally allowed as far as I know. Now good luck finding one . . .

For those wondering it is a green plate, more information can be found here.

The first T that I soloed in had a VW distributor. My T has a magneto as God and Henry Ford intended.

This Green Engineering triple plate is a NOS era accessory. The distributor is a Delco Studebaker reworked to fire 2 plugs at once. Complete triple plates are a hard item to find, Green Engineering equipment is darn near impossible.

I see the Nissan cap is referred to, and that is currently a readily available option. I adapted one to a Bosch front plate distributor. A viable way to fire dual plugs using this cap is a coil for a two cylinder Onan engine. It fires both plugs every time in its original application and seems to work ok firing the Nissan dual plug distributor cap
