Where did you get the photo's? If off the INTERNET post the link and I might be able to locate the source. Given the stanchion posts & ropes and other vehicles its likely in a museum of sorts

I found where the photo's came from (ex: https://photos.smugmug.com/Car-Truck-In ... a12-XL.jpg) but that is a site for storing photo's. Not sure how you got to it. Given the stanchion posts & ropes and other vehicles in a photo its likely in a museum or classic vehicle dealership. One picture may have a lead, in the background there is a name on the cart but I can't zoom in and refine the details to see what it says

Still looking for the person who may have built this speedster. The sellers have no idea. Has anyone ever toured or seen this speedster out and about? It appears to have been restored some years back and I'm hoping to jar someone's memory.

thnx

How can the sellers have no idea - they have numerous collectors cars for sale - they know what provenance is. It makes something more valuable. Is the thing titled?

I understand that, that's why I was asking for information here, hoping someone would recognize the car and let me know. Sadly is way overpriced for what it is. Speedsters just don't bring that sort of money. You see them advertised in those areas but the trick is to sell it. Asking is one thing making the sale is quite another. sort of wish in one hand and want in another.

I appreciate those that have posted here and given me better photos than I had. I just may end up creating my own at a far less cost. I could not get any answers regarding the engine in this car so I will use one of my Frontys to make lots of noise and go fast. Oh well an old man car still dream!!!
thnx for all the help, this forum is an incredible resource for the bretheren,

I will have to disagree about the term overpriced. Start listed all those parts and you will see there are at least $60,000 in that build. The labor rate is only $0.02 per hour and 20-25 years in collecting parts.

Ask me how I know!,

Speedsters pull some good money. This racer sold for over $20k and the build quality looked pretty lackluster. Granted it had the Fronty head but if a car in that condition is worth over 20K I'm not surprised the car in question sold for that.

I have to agree with Hank. If the pictured car is what you really want to end up with, I think you'd be better off just buying it outright. That's not an outrageous price for a hobby car that looks great and has some great parts. A special engine would make it even more worthwhile.

Now if you just want to -build- a car like that and will make a perpetual project out of it, that's a different story. Or if you like the process of turning a sow's ear into a silk purse...

I'm in agreement with Hank as well. Once you realize what it costs to buy all the special bits and pieces to make up your dream car, the dollars add up quickly. Overhead valve head, special wire wheels, special chassis parts, special bodywork, special radiator, etc., you start to understand the costs.
Ask me how I know.

$35,000 is the posted price - sellers always post a price higher than they expect to sell it for. NOW the seller, Nemacolin, is a high class resort in PA. Chances are with the pandemic they don't have a lot of people planning a vacation there this year so it can be a good time to make an offer. The Speedster is in a display area with other so called over priced collector cars, they may be looking to turn the inventory with some new items for people to gawk at (never really intending to sell anything). I'm sure you have your own negotiation method. But here is what I would do with them: Ask what they have to have for it, respond to that by asking them when was the last time it was started , and as many cautionary questions you can muster.
Say you'll think it over. A few days later offer $5,000 less than what you want to buy it for. If they don't counter, give them you phone number and say Thank You and Good-by. I'm with the rest, value the wheels, radiator, seats, head lights, chassis - motor? Then the time to build vs turn-key (may-be).

While I agree with most of the speedster related value statements above... speedsters are rarely a good investment. The money spent on original speed accessories can range anywhere from excessive to obnoxious. But at times, cost will pale in comparison to the years spent waiting and/or searching for the “perfect piece”. At times we have even been known to buy a complete car just to scavenge a single rare gem, or travel far and wide in an instant because an item became available suddenly.

There comes a time in every speedster builders life when we realize that our cars are worth more in pieces than they are assembled. We also realize that all the obsessive collecting, endless restoration efforts, and constant dreaming about the next great accessory was all just a selfless act to assemble the rarest and most exotic accessories into a convenient rolling package to pass along to the next owner. Who will undoubtedly never understand the lifetime of obsession that it took to yield his recent purchase, nor will he understand the amount of stubbornness required to perpetuate the operation of these often unrefined accessories.

I believe it is this very lack of understanding that prevents our speedsters from demanding a sale price that is representative of the level of passion involved in the creation of these rolling accessory collections. But we all are aware of this dynamic... and our obsession mandates that we continue to perpetuate the hopeless cycle anyway 😉

After building my RAJO Racer near 30 years ago, I've yet to open my "receipts" envelope ! I intend on passing it to my Granddaughter as soon as she learns to maintain it & gets her Driver's License - my Grandson can pick one out of the rest of the T's !

While purchasing a finished car would be both the time and cost efficient way to have a car like this, there is nothing on this car that you would have to wait a lifetime to acquire if you were to choose to build one like it. Without a doubt your wallet would have a significant dent by the time you were done, but the radiator, fenders, Buffalo wire wheels, fuel tank, hood, Ruxtell, carbide generator, and headlights are all readily available as reproductions.

The unknown about this car is what’s under the hood. The 2 exhaust header pipes make me scratch my head a bit... seem too close together to be a chebby head, but I suspect this car to be a flat head judging by the really low mounted pipe location. And even if you wanted to build a hot T motor, again all the performance parts are readily available.

This just leaves a handful of common chassis parts to acquire. A bit of restoration, a few fabrication projects to put it all together, and a little color to top it off. No doubt a cable TV show could make it look like a long weekend worth of work 😉
