Post by George Mills » Sun Sep 27, 2020 5:14 pm

My B-I-L just picked up 2 1916 Dodge project cars. Any body have a good forum to recommend?

How about some photos?? I haven't found a DB forum yet, but that could be because of my lousy dial-up internet connection.
I have a May 1916 DB Touring.
As found pretty much

Pretty much "as found" it is taking a LOT of work, and is mostly on my "back burner" Not showing in the photo are the wood wheels, which I have (I think) a complete set now.

Here is a Dodge Brothers Club:
http://www.dodgebrothersclub.org/phpbbforum
AACA has a Dodge & Dodge Brothers section on it's Forum.

Thanks for the infos.

Here is his “buy”. He basically bought on impulse. His Dad was one of the founders of Military Vehicle Preservation, the B-I-L has a full blown motor pool with an arsenal of stuff. Saw these, figured 2 could equal 1 and he plans on doing it up as a Lt George Patton on the trail of Pancho Villa. They are one step above not fit for project cars, but I have seen him start with a pile of parts before, and finish with show machines.

There is nothing quite like new acquisitions on their way home.
Thanks for the photos showing them.

While you can go the Dodge Brothers Club home page, it really runs short on people using it.
The Facebook pages are way better.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/dodgebros/

https://www.facebook.com/groups/DodgeBrothersMotorCars/

Pretty much the same stuff gets posted on both FB pages, but think the Dodge Brothers Motor Cars is a little better as far as people replying.

There is also AACA; https://forums.aaca.org/forum/38-dodge-dodge-brothers/
Not as lively as the two Facebook pages but better then the clubs forum. I post under same name as here on all 3.

Like it! Mine is a 20 and if you were not on the other side of the country I have a late 16 engine sitting in my storage that I would be more then happy to sell you :P
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

Minnesota Pioneer license plate 1995 shown on the front of one of the cars was originally registered to Melvin F. Illa, 320 W. 7th, Hastings, Minnesota, 1916 Dodge touring.

I don't have a breakdown of Minnesota Pioneers by year but the plates were probably issued around 1960 (they started with number one in 1953).

Mr. Illa passed away in 2008 - click on this link to view obituary:

https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/whig/ ... =119539388

If you are interested in additional history on the car, track down his wife and kids listed in the obituary and see if they have info or photos, etc.

I believe my father knew or at least knew of Mr. Illa. I'll have to ask him.

Too bad the car is a victim of poor storage. It was probably in very good unrestored condition when it was originally registered with the Pioneer plates.

Within the past year, press photos of Mr. Illa with some of his cars were listed on eBay. I originally saw them late last year; I believe there were more photos of Mr. Illa listed back then but below is what are currently listed.

George:

Thank you for letting me know that you saw my post. I had sent you a private message.

I asked my dad if he knew Melvin Illa. My father said he remembered him but he didn't recall him ever being member of the Minnesota Region of the AACA.
