Building Anastasia - a "1910" Ford Touring

Post by 1912touring » Sat Oct 10, 2020 6:54 pm

Good evening everyone,

With all the craziness in the world this year, I felt like I needed a project to take my mind off COVID and politics. So, I decided (with my wife's blessing") to build a "1910" touring from scratch. It is a learning process, and I have had help from several forum-members along the way. The body is by Ray Wells and the upholstery (still in progress) is Ernie Romero. Both of these guys are true craftsmen. The green we chose is the same one that Kim Dobbins used on his Model B. It is a nice, rich and deep green. It truly looks almost black.

We purchased a number of 1909/10 parts (frame, fenders, brackets, radiator, windshield, etc.) from Arrdeen Vaughan and Russ Furstnow. Both have been a great help in obtaining parts and in sharing their knowledge. Ross Lilleker is helping me with the rest of the running gear, most of which will be from a 1915 car. I want to give a special shout-out to Hank Lee. I had a steep learning curve trying to build a "1910" steering column. Hank shared with me his knowledge (and tools) on riveting the steering box. Model T guys are a great bunch!!!

This is not a car for the purist; however, "Anastasia" should be fun to show and drive. She has sure helped to keep my mind on something enjoyable instead of the chaos we are going through.

All the best,
Mike

Looks very well done and making good progress. I love these type of projects. I have one like this in a suspended state as well. All together and fit up, waiting to be disassembled and painted. Been that way for 5 yrs. now. Next spring I hope. Looking forward to following along.

You certainly have engaged the right folk to help out with your build. Mr Romero is a true craftsman. Each time I see pictures of his upholstery work, I marvel at it.He is a true craftsman. Looking forward to seeing more pictures of your restoration.

Here are some additional photos that Ernie sent yesterday of progress on the top. He is also creating a matching top boot using the same top material.
