That's great news, for us avid swappers! Will be there too, outside, west of the community bldg., spaces F-19-20
Getting the 2nd dose of covid vaccine first week of Feb, should be at least equipped to ward off that dang pandemic curse

Being of the elderly persuasion I made sure I got on the list for shots. I hope to be immunized well before Chickasha, and plan to unload a pile of valuable treasures.

Check The Fairgrounds
I just called the Fairgrounds Office.
That is the facility hosting the meet.
Last year they were forced to close for two months
due to an order by the Governor of Oklahoma.
This year they plan to stay open unless directed
to close by the Governor or by the President.
There has been one cancelation so far this year
which was for a June wedding that the party
scheduling blamed on COVID.
The contract to rent space for the
Chickasha Swap Meet is supposed to be
signed this week.
So - things look good as of today.
My advice to anyone planning on attending
who will be traveling from a distance:
Wait until the latest possible time to
make flight and motel & hotel reservations.
Ask about COVID cancellation refund policies
should the event be cancelled.
Check in with the fairground office
periodically by phone for a status update
on The Chickasha Swap Meet as well as
other scheduled fairground events leading
up to the swap meet in March.
If you see events are being cancelled in
the weeks leading up to Chickasha - take
note and adjust your travel plans accordingly.
Here is the Fairgrounds information:

Jim, imagine hundreds calling on a regular basis. I do not think that is a good idea! I would prefer if the arrangers step up here and promise to keep us posted.FreighTer Jim wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 12:03 pmCheck in with the fairground office

That said - 11 years ago I was there and enjoyed meeting all the folks from the Forum. I would REALLY love to come again this year seing who have already said they will be there, but I am afraid Covid may prevent me.

Last year I monitored & advised on Chickasha
developments during the last couple weeks.
I accurately predicted the cancellation based
on information I was gathering both in my
travels in Oklahoma & Texas combined
with communication with the Fairgrounds.
I tried to warn folks I knew about starting
the drive early - their decisions were based
on optimistic expectations that were not correct.
As of today I am cautiously optimistic
but that could change
Anyone planning to attend who is
traveling from a distance should contact
the Fairgrounds as the swap meet dates
get closer.
The Fairgrounds is the authority on
whether the swap meet will take place.

FYI- no state Governor or the President has the authority to cancel this swap meet (or any others). If this meet is canceled it will be due to the organizers deciding not to have it. Too much misinformation going around...

The Governor of Oklahoma ordered public gatherings
of more than a certain number closed last year.
That - is why the swap meet was cancelled.
The Governor of Oklahoma or the President
can issue similar orders that force The Fairgrounds
to cancel contracts for scheduled events
that they have rented space for.
No one knows what the future holds for COVID response.

Re: Chickasha Swapmeet 2021
Wrong- the Governor (who has no power over the citizens) probably advised folks to limit the number of people in large gatherings (probably even placed a number on it). The Governor NEVER canceled or closed any events as he/she does not have the authority to do so.
Again- swap meets are canceled by the organizers- not the government.

Were you in Oklahoma last March ?

What state of reality do you live in .... exactly ?
Apparently you were not in Oklahoma near
Chickasha - nor were you in Texas last February & March.
I was.
Your personal political beliefs about
how state and federal governments
should be run are just your opinions.
They are not factual.
When the Governor of Oklahoma
or The President Of The United States
issue orders or guidelines limiting the
number of folks that can assemble ....
Folks generally comply.
Orders can also be issued limiting
public gatherings by Mayors - Health Boards
and other governmental administrators & agencies.
That - is why car shows & swap meets
get cancelled.
If you don’t like it - go protest.

Where I live, we don't protest illegal edicts.
We just ignore them.
As for laws, we generally abide by them, and to a far greater extent than anywhere else I've ever been...
Two entirely different things, and the key is to live where people can coexist peacefully with a minimum of laws and thus consequently live with a minimum of government intrusion.
Wisconsin is a case in point to warning of all freedom-loving Americans. The State Legislature ceeded virtual King-like power to the Governor in the case of a Governor-declared State of Emergency. There is virtually no decree or lenth to which that Executive Officer can go which will exceed his/her/its authority during that period. He/she/it is the lawmaker and the enforcer of new or enhanced laws of any sort that they themselves feel is necessary to protect citizens. Talk about your ill-conceived laws. Other states have a far saner approach, where they still leave it up to the legislature to write laws (or at least their flunky special interest groupies). In the case of the past 10 months, Courts, Legislatures and their constituents have all piddled on themselves like a nervous poodle on an oriental rug, and let their Governors run riot. So, legal or not, it does in fact have the effect of being law.

Re: Chickasha Swapmeet 2021
I will be going to Chickasha if I get my Covid Shot. If I can't get it, I won't be going.
I don't care to risk my life, of the lives of other elderly hobbyists, over nonsensical views of government regulation.
They aren't doing it because they are power hungry despots.
They are doing it because Covid is real and is killing people.
Our local Model T group is NOT having meetings, and NOT doing any touring until Covid is under control.
The local Machinist Group of which I am a member is NOT having meetings until Covid is under control.
Currently, there are NO ICU BEDS AVAILABLE IN OKLAHOMA. That is as of 14 hours ago, They do an inventory of available beds statewide every morning.
Things may improve, but my opinion is that they will just continue to get worse until vaccination efforts finally turn the tide.
If you DO come down with Covid-19, and your local hospital is maxed out, are you content to just die while waiting for a hospital bed?
You are NOT likely to find an available hospital bed anywhere in Oklahoma. The report after this morning's (1-19-20) ICU inventory is that they are now transferring patients to Missouri.
Use your common sense.
If you have gotten your vaccination, good for you. Attend the Chickasha Swap Meet.
If you have not gotten your vaccination, you might want to think twice.

Re: Chickasha Swapmeet 2021
Interestingly enough, experts are now warning those that have been vaccinated may still be able to spread the virus, so those who have been vaccinated may become the new super spreaders with their newly found courage to mingle. Additionally, with a couple of exceptions, in the US the death rate per 100,000 cases is remarkably similar across most states regardless if you're allowed to walk around as a free person, or whether you're cooped up in an apartment praying for a miracle.
Adolecent suicide, adolescent depression, adult depression, adult suicide, homes lost, businesses lost, savings depleted, lives ruined, children unsocialized and uneducated, and general dispair among the population matters not if locking the nation down will save one life, I suppose, no matter how many other lives it costs to save it.
The near total destruction of the middle class has yet to be fully realized, and I think 2021 will be a shocking year for even the most ardent believers of the "just one life" doxy. If you want to save "just one life", sell your car and walk, and ban multi-story homes. Auto accidents and stairs cause millions of injuries and take many many thousands of lives every year.
Live your life responsibily as you see fit. If hiding works for you, great. For me, I don't see people for weeks while I'm at the ranch and that's just fine with me. When I eventually need supplies, I get them. Today was one of those days. From the bank to the Post Office to the grocery store to the sporting goods store, I think I saw 3 masks while I was in town. Hiding is not so much a sport here.

Re: Chickasha Swapmeet 2021
This post is not to approve or to disprove this policy, just FYI. Those of you that may going to Chickasha need to know rules of states you may be going through. I have a friend that a few months ago took a car to the northeast to someone. He was told by Pa and Ny dot that he would be required to have records of a negative Covid test that was not older than 72 hr in order to pass through their state. Now they say they were not stopping out of state vehicles to check this , but if you were stopped for a traffic violation or in an accident you would be checked for your papers. If you did not have the negative test papers you WILL be escorted to the nearest hotel where you will be required to stay in quarantine for 14 days on your dime. If you left early you would be under arrest.
Of course this may not be in effect now, who knows. Just telling you what I was told. And it all may change to something else today. Who knows? Dan

The pull of this swap meet is great. I really enjoyed the times I was there. I an scheduled to get my shots next week and in Feb via the Veterans Administration ( I am a DV and served in the 1950s.) I have some nice items to bring, but I will pass on this one.

you may want to consider coming to the Chickasha meet ... usually much milder weather than even here in northern Colorado ... USUALLY ... anyway , there is always a good bunch of people to meet and visit with and i have always enjoyed the weekend ...always an optimist Gene French
