Model T Truck 1920's? Project Truck

Post by margareteversole » Thu Feb 28, 2019 5:28 pm

Before this goes up for auction in August and turns into metal scrap I'm hoping that someone might want to buy it. The owner passes away last year before having a chance to finish it. Some of you might have seen photos of it last year at the Denver Swap. Anyway, this is last call before it heads to the metal scrap heap.

The bed is in tact, an engine has been thrown in, it has the Warford and I think Rocky Mountain brakes, 4 restored wood tires, and most all the large parts with it. You pick up in Collbran, Colorado. We might be able to deliver for an extra fee.

Auction or scrap heap...that's two different things.

placed on Craig's List with a reasonable price, it would be in Denver in 7 days and you'd make way more than scrap.

I know some guys who go to auctions/estate sales, to bid on anything metal, just to take it to a local metal recycler. These guys follow what the exchange rate is and have it down to a science to the penny. They bid on bigger heavier things that nobody has an interest or will bid on due to it's size/weight/age (Old tractors, school buses, beams, etc). These guys don't look at it like history. They see $ signs, and wouldn't bat an eye lash at taking a TT to the recycle. I found a 1919 T engine/trans ( no pan/hogs head/cylinder head/manifold) in a local scrapers pile he was taking in for scrap. He asked me what I wanted with "that boat anchor". 100% it would have been sent over to China. I retrieved it and gave it to a local gentleman for his 3rd Model T he was building. Although I highly doubt a Model TT would go into a metal scrap heap w/o someone recovering it, ya never know.

So what does this TT weigh? 2500 lbs? (Probably not that much)
What does scrap iron go for? $.10 / lb. (I am being generous)

Scrap value = $250.00

"The bed is in tact, an engine has been thrown in, it has the Warford and I think Rocky Mountain brakes, 4 restored wood tires, and most all the large parts with it. "

Seems an intact bed would be worth $250, Warford is a few hundred more, cab a few hundred, Rockys for a TT are tough to find, Restored wooden wheels should bring few hundred, … the threat of taking it to a scrapper ring a little hollow.

Put it on Craig's list for $500, someone will pick it up and you will get double what you would hauling it to the scrapper.

I really don't understand why anyone would post a TT for sale in this manner. At least put a price on it...

When we originally inquired about her items, communication was not immediate. I can also tell you the original asking price was way more than $500.

I have seen a number of Unobtanium vehicles over the years that were posted to be a firm price just south of the stratosphere that would either be sold for that amount, period, because "that is what it is worth and I will not be cheated", and then abandoned or sold for near $0 for scrap. Not an uncommon sales tactic. Not effective, but not uncommon.

To the OP. Your truck will sell if you let it. For far more than scrap. Just not for $10,000, no matter what your appraiser told you. None of the people above who have tried to get you to respond has any interest in cheating you.

I spoke to her on the phone on Friday, She is asking $3800. Nice woman but not up on model T values or how to sell them. When the weather gets better I will go see the car.

I would say worth $1,500 with the info available, but if the Warford is in good shape it could be worth $1,500 alone. Pig-in-a-poke thingy. Who knows, might include a Kingston 5 ball.

I hope it finds a good home!

If a few guys are interested in going in together to buy for parts (to save it), I am interested in doing so to get the warford and RM. brakes. Brassford, seems you are somewhat local. Let me know after you ck it out if that makes any sense. Thanks.

A seller posts an item with no price. Threatens auction. Several forum members PM and make offers. Seller plays offers against each other or takes the highest offer. Hence, it's an auction. Just no auctioneer.

Or seller posts photo of rare item and states that they don't know what it's worth. Several PM's later, they no exactly what it is worth and it is on it's way to it's new home.

It's all good.

Sorry that I forgot to list the price when I posted. This should have been listed for $3,800. Also, there is a flat trailer with additional rods, rear ends, fenders, etc. that is for sale for $1,500. I hope that this clarifies the listing. I've included a picture of the VIN number that is on the motor. thanks, Margaret [image][/image]

Hi Gentleman,
I don't know why I don't get these messages via email. I guess I don't have the settings correct. Anyway, I posted a picture of the VIN number and I know that the truck doesn't have a title. Dick passed away before that was taken care of. I'm doing this for his widow and doing the best I can with the new forum format. The price of $3,800 that I listed for the truck was based on what I found online over the last couple of years. I will answer the other posts so no one is mad with me. Thanks, Margaret
