Could be FORD ?
A respected investment adviser said this about investing in companies:
" “....about 3,000 automobile companies have existed in the United States” and that of the remaining 3, one was bailed out, one was bought out and only one is still chugging along on its own."
I had previously read that there were MANY, but I had no idea that there were that many. Did you?
(Or is this another example of fake news?).

Re: Could be FORD ?
I understand that the one that got 'Bought out" was also bailed out, and still managed to send itself down the crapper ? But I am sure the 'executives' still had good salaries and board members good fat fees right up till the day they got bought for a song ?
I understand the OTHER one to get bailed out is now in profit but will they be asked to repay the bail out funds ??

Re: Could be FORD ?
I found this list on the Kohnke Rebabbiting web site. The number of companies listed amazed me. Many of them are hyperlinked, so clicking on the name will get you additional information. I cannot verify the accuracy, but it appears to be the best list I have ever seen. Use the address below.

That is not even close to all if you add in trucks!
Give an old car guy a barn and he won't throw anything away.

Re: Could be FORD ?
In my 1926 Dyke's manual there is a section on repairing "Orphan Cars" with a list of cars that were no longer made by 1926, and a list of places to source parts for them. I seem to recall counting well over 200 cars on that list.

Re: Could be FORD ?
Two points were made here. There were MANY people who gave carmaking
a whirl in the early days, and that corporate America generally means greed
for the few at the top and screw everyone else to do it.
The tales of noble tycoons seem few and far between anymore.

More people are doing it today than ever before !

Re: Could be FORD ?
I can add two more brands that are not on that list. Both were built in Omaha, Nebraska.
Bacon. Founded by Frank Bacon.
Wolsely (not the better-known Wolseley) with Frank Bacon as Vice Pres and General Manager.
Sorry for the post. I just finished breakfast.
