Help with a noise

Please give me some ideas on this noise. It started suddenly. Quieted for a few miles when I lubed the universal but now won’t go away. Rearend rebuilt, transmission and engine rebuilt, new universal. Ran about 200 miles with no issues. Sounds like something has come loose. What could it be? I wasn’t the rebuilder. My mechanical knowledge is low compared to most guys on here. 90% of what I know about the car, I read on the forum. Please help! I want to take the car to the homecoming if possible! Thank u

I have heard fan belts with a joint in them that start to separate make a similar noise. I had one. I put a seamless black gates belt on my 13 and couldn't believe how quiet it got. Or maybe your fan hub needs lubed? Start with the easiest things first and work your way up. Good luck.

It could be a loose crankshaft pulley.

I forgot to mention, it sounds like it’s coming from under the floorboards. I know many sounds travel though.

You're thinking it might be coming from under the floorboards. You might consider jacking up the rear axle and supporting it on jack stands and blocking the front wheels, then remove the floorboards and run the engine in high gear at various speeds. I have a thesoscope (like the Doctors and Nurses use) that i bought at Harbor Freight & use it to help locate noises on my T's. I suppose you could have a band nut and maybe a band washer that came loose and is flying around in there somewhere.

You could also take it to whomever rebuilt the engine and ask them about it.

Is the spring in place on the hand crank?

If the spring is missing or shoved into the bushing the ratchet pawl on the crank can hit or bounce off of the crank shaft pulley pin.

Easy enough to check.

Ed,
I checked the spring and it is actually disconnected from the hand crank, doing nothing! You may be onto the problem. I’ll check after church. Thanks so much.

So I snuck the t out before I left for church. I think Ed nailed it! Reattached the spring on the hand crank and no noise in a short drive! Thanks MTFCA and Ed!

Glad to hear that’s what it was.

I underestimated the importance of that spring until I noticed the hand crank on one of my T’s bouncing of the crankshaft pin while looking at something else on the engine while it was running.

Before I replaced the spring I always heard an intermittent knock when driving.
