Hassler Mounting bolt availability

Is anyone still reproducing the bolt that attaches the hassler to the spring perch. On old forum posts someone said they were producing them, but I can’t find any current info. I could make some if I need too for my needs. Just wanted to support someone if they are being made first.

The late Jack Daron was selling them a quite a number of years ago then Lang's was selling them - not heard of them being available now.

These bolts are one of the big voids in the hobby. Lots of Hassler sets available, but bolts are the hold up. There is a demand for these if someone has the ability to make them.

At this point in time I don’t have my own machines, I work for a machine shop and have free range to run them on my time allowing me to do my items. If it comes to be where I can have my own machines and my part doesn’t fail on me. That’s something I would be willing to consider.

Does anyone know how hard or heat treating need to be on these bolts?

As worn as some I have seen are, not very hard! Going out on a limb here but guessing about the same as the shackles. They would be subject to about the same forces. They would also need to be drilled and tapped for a grease cup.

Drilling for a grease hole and taping threads are not hard. Il have to take a shackle in and have it tested then. I found a old Lang’s catalog and it had a picture of the repos and it showed them with grease zerks with what appears to be a grease cup cap cover for looks. I’ll probably make mine a little different

I have repro's on my Beehive set plus I kept the worn originals. I just have the worn originals for the pancake style looking for new ones for them. I can add some photos later (stored away). The interesting part of the bolts is that they have a larger head size than today's' bolt size would have.

I had my heat treat guy Rockwell test the bolt and it was to soft to register anything

Just an fyi, some front arms use the longer bolt. So, if anyone decides to pick this project up, please consider making both lengths even though front Hasslers are more popular.

Then there are us guys with the rare Hasslers on our early Dodge Brothers. I don't know if these came with grease cup attached or not, they are the later round id plate and may have had the bolts replaced at some point with shackle bolts.

Also consider making bolts for the Pancake style. The head size is needed to fit into the hex recess in the Hassler arm. I can use 4 bolts for the Pancake style

Ok so I received the bolts from Jay this afternoon. Thank you Jay. Upon looking over the bolts. The ends are of rough saw cuts and have no appearance of being heat treated and appears to be machined raw stock. I will do a Rockwell test Monday when I get into work and talk to one of engineers and try to figure out what material these are unless anyone knows what they are made of. I need to make a longer version for the double hassler. I may make a set for the single as well.

The pan cake style bolt looks to be the same as what is on my Dodge Brothers set. The one tag that is still present on them, is the round style which I think is contemporary with the pan cake set. Mine still use the beehive springs so guess that using that style bolt made manufacturing easier.

Okay update time. After thinking and talking we came up with a material with out heat treat that has a hardness of about 35 through out deep. The original bolts are only case hardened to about 60 at the hardest reading I could get. Don’t know how it will work longevity wise but I’ll run a brass bushing in the spring perch and see how it goes when the car I’m building gets on the road.
