What did you do with your model T in June
Took Mz.Daizy (24 coupe) to a kids charity car show here in town. The best part was seeing the kids faces once they got inside the cab

Started my '14 after a nap since October and moved it into the summer shed. Two pulls with full choke, turned on the switch and got a free start! The road is still too muddy for a drive but I'm looking forward to it!

Took the 'T' for a drive. Have it ready for Missouri Tour next week. The Z head made a big difference. I don't have a ruxell so the extra power helped out. Have a good safe June. Clyde

Finally finished up the new Ruckstell, got it underneath & hooked up. After participating in the National Tour in California last June, my left calf grew enormously after the first couple days - I've never used low band that much, ever !!! Rocky Mtn. brakes go on this coming week & we'll be ready to tour !

I took the 26 Touring to the AACA Grand National in Auburn. Lots of Ts there. I followed Mark and Phil Eyre in. They were showing their 11 Commercial Runabout. This was a great show. No idea if I won anything but I'm okay either way.

I also did some work on my 13. Here I have just managed to get the original glass out of the windshield framework...intact! I have no idea why in my last post my photo uploaded twice. My apologies to all.

Replacing the fiber timing gear in my '24 Touring with the beautiful Ford script metal one that Henry Lee sent me.
Doug Keppler will help me. If all goes well we'll get the New Day Timer installed, and reinstall the radiator (now checked, cleanned and painted), cowl with new lacing, and hood.
Can't wait to hit the back country roads!

15 Runabout restoration project:
So far this month I've finished the body work needed on the four fenders. They are ready for final priming and sanding prior to paint.
Yesterday I sanded down the trunk. I looked like a coal miner by the time I was done. That paint was tough to sand off!
21 Touring:
We drove it to church this morning. It was a beautiful day for a drive. We did not have too much trouble finding it in the parking lot afterwards...

Steve: Let me know how the Ruckstell installation comes out. You will not be disappointed. Don't mount your shift lever on the side, and mess up your frame as so many do. Of course, you know Otis would never have approved!
I got to see the recipient of a lot of Otis's parts a few weeks ago. There had to have been dozens of the early brass oilers!

Re: What did you do with your model T in June
I just looked over the results posted on the AACA website. It was a great weekend indeed for all of us showing T's or other early Fords. Every one of us received the award we were seeking. That made 10 Ts and one '03 Ford either achieving or maintaining a restoration at either the Grand National or Senior Grand National level. At least two of us drive our cars demonstrating there is absolutely no reason you cannot have a car to show and drive at the same time.

Re: What did you do with your model T in June
My son and I finished up taking Nellie's engine apart. Crank shaft out, Cam shaft out, and did assessments for bearings and journals. Surprisingly, the journals look to be in extremely good condition considering the babbit was just about completely shot. Found about 5 inches of wire in the water jacket. Fished that out. Did some "scrape it off clean up" and now ready to send it to the shop for hot tanking, baking, and magnafluxing. Then we'll know where we stand to start with. I would have posted some photos but everyone already knows what tearing down an engine looks and feel like.
Cheers,
Terry

Re: What did you do with your model T in June
Lifting a Model T on a 2 post lift is a real pain - the narrow frame and design of the undercarriage makes it tough to set the lift pads and clear everything like the battery box, muffler, and the front wishbone. This is not a new idea to anyone, but I decided to make one yesterday to make oil changes, adjustments, and other simple repairs easier. Sorry about the sideways photos...I don't know how to correct this - yet!

Went to the races. 1/8 mile dirt, not timed just old time drag racing. Had a fuel pump take a dump on me and was able to find one in the town. My buddy Nick Nicholas is in the near lane. We had a great time..

Re: What did you do with your model T in June
Today I installed accessory panel 1.1 which I made yesterday. Panel 1.0 didn't fit very well.
On the left is the 12 volt outlet and switch for my phone charger or other accessory. The switch on the right side is for the speedometer light.
I also finished installing the new wiring harnesses. My only complaint about them is that I had to replace a couple of the eye terminals that were too small to fit.
The one rusty screw is a longer replacement for one that pulled loose. It's longer, but a size smaller. When we used to have a real hardware store I would have gone to town and bought one of the right size, but I know better than to waste my time trying that now.
While I had the timer off to hook up the new wiring I sanded the contacts flat.

Re: What did you do with your model T in June
After several low band adjustments after cork and cotton relining...she finally settled down. Pulled the cover and cleaned out the screen, gave the brake half a turn and buttoned it up. I only adjusted the brake one other time and it feels great !! First clean out had some cork pieces in it (just a little, possibly from a missing cork from before?), none this time.
Next good ride, I plan to change the oil and clean the screen again. I think we all know what a screen full of oily cotton looks like !
I will disconnect and blow out the oil line too.

Re: What did you do with your model T in June
I just got back from a 6 day camping trip with 3 high school buddies (we haven't gotten together in 46 years), they came from Seattle area, San Jose area, and the Phoenix area to Central Oregon. One of them has a 28 Model A sedan, we camped in the rain, hail and clear weather and drove about 600 miles (about 275 on dirt), we only had 1 plugged fuel line, a plugged radiator (flushed with vinegar) and a carb fire. We had a wonderful time with lots of stories and memories.

Dusted it off, that's about all I can do what with the price of gas here in Commiefornia as of late...and it is going up another 12 cents next month too...I hate this state! I just can't get out of here too soon!

Hauled her from one storage facility to another one with tools. Now I can start getting her back in shape so I can drive again.
Pictures are of my 9 year old he watched us load and unload the car a year ago. This time he asked if he could run the truck. I drove but he completely unloaded her himself. Proud dad moment.

Re: What did you do with your model T in June
Went to a cookout last night at a friend's.
Most have seen the T before, but a few hadn't.
Took a couple of friend's young adult kids for a ride and answered questions all evening.
Had the top down and was nice about 9pm, still above 70 degrees !!
Changed the oil, checked over everything I could think of, while on my lift.
Got a new floor mat, using the old one as a pattern, still got the starter button hole off..
24 body, 26 chassis and I assume a 25 firewall ?
Got a pretty nice fit with the trim job anyway.
The old one was getting pretty ragged.

Re: What did you do with your model T in June
Thank you Dallas, I will do everything next week-end but I decided to postpone the top this winter because I will enjoy driving her all the summer and the fall. It is an 8 years project, I can’t believe it, I’m close to achieve that huge restoration.

Got the U&J carburetor installed in the runabout. Love the low idle, smooth acceleration and hill flattening of this thing.

Re: What did you do with your model T in June
After 300 miles one of the oil slingers came off. What a mess. Two more had loose bolts. I have everything cleaned and waiting for parts. Will do the work myself this as I had purchased a trans ready to install. Will put red lock-tite on the bolts. I found all the broken parts . Hope to have the motor back in by Sat. Night. When the slinger came loose I thought it might be a rod or crankshaft. It could have been worse. Have a good day. Clyde.

Just got back from the Golden Gate Tour up in Marin, and Sonoma Counties. Toured about 300 miles total. My 25 pickup turned over 6,000 miles on this tour since I restored it about nine years ago. It is a sweet running car, and only adjusted the bands once just after I restored the car. I never raised the hood once on this tour. Touring is great!

Re: What did you do with your model T in June
Flew to California with my Son and got Grandma's speedster ready for the endurance run which involved (in 48 hours with no shop or tool) repairing a radiator core that was leaking at a rate of about a gallon every 5 min, and replacing the washer on the reverse band. In the process the nut fell in the transmission and alternator roll pin (held the gear on) was found in the sump requiring alternator repair as well. To get the nut out the hogshead was lifted up (unable to remove due to the body) breaking all the seals. Watching oil pressure and temp constantly we were able to make it to the run as well as complete the run. My Son got a ride on the lowland tour and they did come in on a trailer due to multiple flat tires.

My father and I went on that epic Golden Gate tour with 7 other cars. My 1915 touring made it without issue. Although my battery power no longer reaches my ignition. However, the magneto works just fine. Six days of beautiful and diverse routes. And, a great group of Model T-ers. This is "what I did with my Model T in June".

Re: What did you do with your model T in June
During my last oil change, I dropped the inspection cover and cleaned up any debris after a band reline. Musta reused the gasket once too many times and had a nice leak !
Put it on the lift again and replaced the gasket. Took nearly as long to set the lift as it did to change the gasket, but was well worth it !!
No more streams coming out and I think I'm good on lubing the wishbone socket for a little while...

Today was Cars and Coffee in S. Burlington Vermont, to we got the touring out and had a very nice 25 mile drive with the top down. We were the oldest car in the there and got to answer lots of questions and show how to hand crank the old ford. Then it was off to work and then home all total about 50 miles.

I didn't go 300 miles but did drive the '26 Touring about 10 miles from my trailer home. I beat the rain by about an hour. While the car has been rained on plenty of times I am enjoying having it clean for a change.

Re: What did you do with your model T in June
Every year my wife's church has a "car show" on the church entry to celebrate "Father's Day". I get a call every year as I am known for bringing something a bit different. In the past I have brought a 1947 MGTC, my 1913 Ford Model T New Zealand Fire Brigade car, my 1927 rusty model T Los Angeles City Fire Dept. Mountain Patrol Vehicle (commercial pick-up). Last year my Gyroplane was a huge favorite, lots of folks asked about it.
As usual there were rock crawlers, Sting Rays, '56 Chev and Fords, BMW's etc. The '56 was the oldest except for:
Last night I finished converting two 1913 headlights to L.E.D. and tonight I will test out the wonderful world of illumination! Folks came up to see the Ford and many asked about the gyro from last year. I guess I've been type cast for unusual vehicles. This is the only "show" I do, if asked next year I hope the 1912 Omnibus will be ready!
It was fun to stand close enough to listen to comments, especially the Dad's explaining the capabilities and features of a model T. I learn a lot about T's that way. I now know that you wind the car up with that handle in the front and that this car can go over 80 mph; no faster because of the wooden wheels... who knew?

I finally was able to paint Vernen's rear fenders after about a week working on them even they are nos from over 40 years ago. The right one went on great because of the correct iron. I have to buy a left one for 23-25 coupe roadster to put the other on . I also got my rear wheal back and on . MEL.

Re: What did you do with your model T in June
Got it running and driving for the first time in probably 35 years. Been sitting in a garage after some work done, I wouldn't say a restoration. Bought it at an auction last fall, had about an hour to get it running then, didn't have another hour to work on it until Sunday, brought it in from the ranch, put new dry coils in, fixed the leak on the radiator petcock, put a battery and gas in, cleaned the vaporizer because I didn't have time to change manifolds, fired it up and went for a drive. Didn't have time Monday to do anything, Jeff Jones came Tuesday for an hour or so and helped with the floorboards and the seat back that was missing, went for a 5 mile drive, loaded it on the trailer and yesterday went on the Rocky Mountain T Club tour ----- except we couldn't find them. They changed the route, which we were unsure of to begin with, we were late to the party, so we just went for a drive from Drummond to Philipsburg -- 27 miles in 48 minute all uphill -- and then up the mountain to the ghost town of Granite. Wasn't much there but was a good test of the T. Thought we powered out once but discovered the needle adjustment worked its way closed and it killed it. We rolled back down the mountain until we got to a spot we could park, fired it up and away we went. The photos are of the car in front of the old Union Hall in Granite. Came back down, had barbeque and ice cream, went back to Drummond, loaded it up and came home. Drove about 100 miles all together. We climbed about 3,000 feet in five or six miles to Granite. Need a Rucktell. Need more power.
The body is mostly all original, paint is good, virtually no rust anywhere, fenders have an old brush paint job on them, the top has new wood but poorly done, panel below the trunk lid is bent from the auction company yanking on it to get it out of the garage it was in. It will get a "Hoover Box" in place of the trunk, no new paint and if I can find one, an old canvas army tarp for a top. Just what I want. It will also get my Giant Power or a Prus head, a Rucktell and working lights. Good to go.

I put new Excelsior tires all around in my 1911.
They are a little larger than the non-skids.-

Today I drove the 09 Touring for the first time since it toasted a rod near Richmond Indiana on the way back from Dayton Ohio. Pictures of the damage later. Also fixed the bad petcock that let all my oil out before the damage stopped me and ended our fun.

Our club just finished a 300 mile ghost town tour in the mountains here in Montana. About half of the miles was on dirt. Some of the grades were extremely steep. Amazing what the old T can do. Definitely period correct roads.

Re: What did you do with your model T in June
We have talked about these little buggers several times. With all the ideas to make a better horn mount I have stayed with this one and re-soldered it several times. The solder I have probably is 50/50. This time I have chosen to silver solder it. I have no idea what the composition of this silver solder is as it was a gift with no numbers or identification. I don't think it will break at the joints again as this is pretty good stuff.
One thing I like about brass work is that no matter how bad it looks after you use heat on it, it cleans up very nicely.
The dainty post seems to me to be a safety thing so it will break before the more important parts do. We will see.

Took the NH off my 1923 touring and installed another one. The carb I removed is one I've worked on and used before. The replacement doesn't look like anyone has worked on it for decades. With it the car starts easier and gets up hills better.

Hopefully not jinxing myself, but woke up my T today.
Started right up first try. Very happy and unexpected. Now to get some work done. First I'll go over front axle. Many cotter pins missing for starters. Sorry about sideway photo Don't know how to make it right side up!

Don't know how to make it right side up!
That seems to be common with phone pictures. When it shows up sideways in Preview, delete it. Then rotate your original photo 90º left or right, and then turn it back right side up and try posting again.

Re: What did you do with your model T in June
I took my car to 2 car shows. The first was the Midwest Region Breakfast run, the second a celebration of Elgin Industries 100 year anniversary. Elgin Industries was a supplier of piston pins to Ford in 1919. The employees were happy to see a nice selection of Vs including a 1919. Since both shows were in relatively heavy traffic areas, I practiced my trailering skills on both days.

After a few adjustments on clutch forks and carb, it sounded like fun Dave. My top was already up
I took a little drive and it ran at the high end on temp but never got hot. Its 88 outside . I turned my phone when I took photos so we will see if they are upright.

Re: What did you do with your model T in June
We bought our first T in June, just last Sunday. We've taken it around the block a few times but never out on the road actually going someplace until today. I had to run something over to my brother's place, just 2.5 miles away, and thought it'd be a good little trip to test the T and get more used to driving it. Pull up to the first light and a motorcycle comes up to tell me a little white box flew out of the car. Okay, no big deal, I'll just turn around and go get it, so after turning around I hear a dink, dink, dink noise only to look behind me and see parts of the car bouncing down the road. After stopping the car I picked up the part, realized it was the headlight ring which popped off and my headlight glass was shattered on the road. Okay, fine, put the ring back on as best I could then go to pick up the box then headed over to my brothers. Just a single turn after leaving my brothers the stupid car decides to just die. Fan-freakin-tastic. Tried a couple of times, eventually got it to start, and I made it home. In the end nothing major happened but our first journey together, a total of 5 miles, did not go as well as planned.

Re: What did you do with your model T in June
The VMCCA has a Kentucky-based, but actually nationwide, nickel-era chapter that accommodates cars from 1913 through 1927, even if (like my '14 T) they have no nickel. Their summer tour was last week. We stayed at a ski resort south of Gettysburg, PA. The longest day was over 125 miles to Harpers Ferry, WV and the Antietam battlefield in Maryland. Glorious weather, wonderful back roads, almost no traffic, great views and humongous hills. I have standard Ford brakes and no Ruckstell, and my gimpy (post-polio) left leg got a helluva workout. About 325 miles for the week. Half the cars were Fords, but there was a '14 Pierce-Arrow, several Packards (including a couple of twin-sixes), a couple of Buicks, a couple of Chryslers, a Dodge, a Moline and a Hupmobile. Another tourist's 12-year-old grandson navigated for me, and I taught him to drive the T in the ski resort's huge empty parking lot.
Yesterday the AACA had a national judging meet about 10 miles from my house. I drove the T over, just to have a look. Acres of post-war iron, but a few nice Ts including Pete Ratledge's.

Re: What did you do with your model T in June
Revolving around my newly acquired 1915 cut down touring... I pulled the head off the '22 engine for the first time and discovered bird seed, but smooth cylinder walls. Salvaged had forged hardware from an old farm wagon for a pickup bed. And got ready to freshen up a Holley NH.
