Steve Jelf has moved and would appreciate a call

Post by DHort » Mon Nov 10, 2025 12:19 pm

Steve has moved out of his house and into Winfield Rest Haven.

If you wish to call him or send him a card he would be most appreciative.

I was bragging on Jeff to my wife a few months back. When I was rebuilding my rear axle I had watched his 4 part series on YouTube. What struck me most was watching Jeff, older than me, skinny & wirey as he is, muscle the completed axle assembly from vertical to horizontal lifting it up by the radius rod across his neck/shoulders like it was nothing.
I had to get two neighbors to help me!!!!!!!!
Hard to imagine Jeff having to go to a retirement home after watching that.

Time definitely goes at warp speed the older I get.
Lesson learned from folks like Jeff, live life, live it now!!!!
Call me anything you want...just so long as it isn't "late for dinner"

I think the deciding factor for Steve was probably the wreck he had on the way to OCF. Hard to recover from something that bad at any age.
Good luck Steve. Stay on the forum, we miss you. Dan

Is it safe to assume that his email address has stayed the same?

Well, that is some really bad news. Steve I think of you often and have good memories of the couple times we had a visit at your place. I hope to see you again next time I come to Kansas. Hang tough, Buddy. Regards, Bob Hester

Still kicking, sort of. When I get annoyed over something I can't do anymore, I think of what I see when I go in the dining room. Most of those codgers are in worse shape than I am. I can still walk, so it's OK.

It's good that you are online, Steve. Old Age ain't for sissies, as Arthur Godfrey used to say.

I know what you mean! It was only 11 years ago that I took a one mile each way hike into the Big Santa Anita Canyon to visit a cabin built by my grandfather 100 years earlier. It seems like a long time ago looking back, but the time has seemed to go by by quickly. Today if I were to go there again, It would be a great effort to walk from the parking lot to the beginning of the trail. Even here at home, the mail box is 1180' down an almost level road, but I drive from home to the mail box to pick up mail. Hard to even get in and out of the car. Arthritis. I have a very hard time just getting dressed and putting on shoes. I restored a Model T about 25 years ago but now hard just to change the oil! But I cannot complain too much because I will be 90 if I survive 3 more months. That's longer than any of my ancestors that I know about since the Revolutionary war!
Keep plugging Steve. You quite well in your picture.

Steve, is your phone number, still the same? I guess its safe to say that your T tinkering and driving days are over, Huh? What did you do with your house and property, T parts, old Dodge pickup, and old AC tractor? If you don't want to answer that last question on this public forum, I'll understand. You're not the only one feeling our senior years. I didn't find out about "George 'N L.A.' (Geo. Clipner) until a few months ago this year. Also, my right knee has arthritis and has suddenly given out causing me to fall 3 times in one week and spend one weekend in a hospital. Fortunately, no broken bones, but I can't post a photo of the bruise on my butt cheek on this forum!

I tried calling that number, but it's the Rest Home, and Steve has moved to an apartment. The young woman was unable to find a way to connect me with Steve's room phone.
Anyway Steve. Thanks so much for your service to the club. You're not done yet my friend. Still lots of bolts to tighten and cotters to bend.

Somehow my old phone number has survived all the adventures since my wreck. You can reach me when I remember to have the phone with me. :)
