T auction today
Surprised there are no photos/reports from the T auction in Indiana today.
It's been going for a couple hours by now.

I thought it was a very good auction. Lots and lots of parts. Some things went very high, others not so much. There was some very good deals.

Re: T auction today
Probably the best deal was the 1911 tourabout. It was all in pieces but had a original torpedo frame, Raywells body, windshield etc, etc. Also a torpedo steering bracket mold was sold, so I’d expect to see some repops here pretty soon.

Re: T auction today
Interesting. I'd like to have been there but it is close to 2,000 miles one way, if you are going you should take the pickup and a trailer, I figured it would take over a week and a thousand bucks to go and when I look at all the stuff I have already ......................................... I don't really need to go buy more stuff. But I'd liked to have been there and seen their operation and the stuff.

Re: T auction today
In general, things went for fair to high retail prices. There were lots of great buys but many things are sold in large lots. $5 a oil pan is good but you had to buy all 12-15, buckets and totes of gears, pistons, bands, etc, $5-20 each, but buying buckets and totes start to take a lot of space in the truck. The 2 chassis went for around $2k each, 26-27 engine on stand over$600. Smith form a truck had the open valve engine stolen befor the auction, it went for about $3k w/o an engine. 26 coupe $4k, 26 roadster $3.7k, real nice 26-27 four door body with new paint and decent original seats just $400. 26-27 wire wheels $90-160. Wire hubs $90-130. New brass radiator $1400. Re-core high radiator about $ 200.
Most internet bids lost out to on site bids. Nice 27 p/u bed $900, decent solid 24-25 touring body $200.
Steve Jelf was there with his roadster on his way to ocf. Some from texas, florida, california, and points between.

Wow, wonder what the deal is here? Was the engine actually removed from the truck?

Here was the flyer. Whoever took the engine knew what it was. There was 20 plus blocks laying around outside and they were all still there.

Re: T auction today
The open valve engine had been taken out of the truck by the thief and replaced with another engine, that way the theft went unnoticed for some time.

How does someone do this without anyone noticing ? Something that large and heavy
isn't something one just slips in their pocket. At least, not where I live !
More people are doing it today than ever before !

Re: T auction today
So....... When you are planning your auction this is something to be aware of. Who is liable for the loss??? The owners??? The Auction company??? If the owner is standing the loss and had insurance on the merchandise protecting for loss by theft, etc., and the insurance company pays the owner for the loss does the auction company collect their commission on the insurance payment??? IMHO they should but it seldom happens.
If the owners are expecting the auction company to reimburse them for the merchandise that was stolen it opens up a whole new can of worms and questions, doesn't it??
In general, the Auction company does not and can not insure loss of the merchandise prior to the auction because the insurance company won't insure them as they do not actually own the merchandise. A good auction company will encourage the owners to insure the merchandise for loss or damage, the property for liability -- particularly personal injury and will have a clause in their contract that excludes them from performing as a bailee of the items to be sold. However, in some states, the auction company is automatically the bailee for all merchandise. That is time to talk to your bonding company and insurance provider as it can get expensive very quickly. Generally, they have a deductible around 5% of the projected gross.
There is more to hiring the right auctioneer than meets the eye.

Re: T auction today
Hmmmmmm. Model T engine weighs 350-400 lbs. Old bolts holding it in a T frame for the last 100 years. Methinks this was not a one man crime of opportunity. Methinks there were at least two guys, probably three, impact wrenches, another similar engine at the ready to put in the truck. Even if they knew what they were doing it was probably an hour long deal or close to it.
Somebody knows who did the deed and where it went.

Re: T auction today
Yep, with a buddy, that's all it would take, right circumstances.
Sad, just sad, but people are people and some are crap. Lets all keep that serial number firmly in our minds. 40218 engine number.
I left the building for a half hour and a fella (know who he is-stole a desirable oil can) in '07. The same year the owner of the oil can died!
Last year at the show, we 3 watched a lady steal a 6 dollar jump rope off the post, I called her out on it, she didn't even flinch. Just walked out the door with her hubby and brats.
Ugh.

Re: T auction today
The engine was stolen months ago from inside a locked building with no signs of forced entry. It was an inside, local job. The person knew exactly what they were after. The replacement engine was staged to look just like the open valve engine sitting on a cart inside the shop.

Re: T auction today
I had a great time! Picked up two pretty nice 26 Roadster rear fenders and a passenger side front as well as some other odds and ends I needed. Happy with the price, products and the process. The auctioneer was pretty funny and met some good guys in the assembled group. Great job by Kenny keeping the auctioneers apprised of what was what! It was a haul up there and back, but that’s why retirement is good. As an aside, while they were auctioning some Whizzer parts (fairly unsuccessfully), a fellow next to me said “this doesn’t seem to be a Whizzer crowd”, I replied that most of this crowd probably thought a Whizzer was a well functioning prostate....poor guy laughed loud enough that the auctioneer thought he had bid! If you’re reading this as that guy, sorry again, but we got it cleared up that he hadn’t bid! I’m not sure the best bargain wasn’t the 4K brand new Onan RV generator for under $400.....

Re: T auction today
I was lucky to get that generator. Brand new and never ran. The only other thing I bought was the Fairmont RQ railroad motor car engine. I got it running last week.

Re: T auction today
I walked away with a new old stock 26/27 rear fender for $60 and a real nice hood former for 11-14 for my wifes projects and a set of lined rear brake shoes for my car new never installed. Can't remember if that is all I got as I got a call from the hospice nurse about my Mom while we were at the sale and had to leave early. We didn't spend a lot but saw a lot of good stuff sell for a lot of money. The only deal I saw was the 26 4 door body in real good shape sold for $600 and my arm never moved for some reason. Must be out of space at the barn.
Give an old car guy a barn and he won't throw anything away.
