Do I need a pilots licence for this thing?
Im happy for the family at the auction but too pricey for me. my buddy's and I drove 1 1/2 hrs east to my backup plan. This 18 cutoff touring came flying out of the semi trailer and into my trailer! A few other bits and said goodbye to Fred and headed home. I have my growler to go with my armature lathe now also. A great day with friends on the hunt for T parts. Doesnt get much better. Chatted with our friend Steve at the auction and got a nice set of tires, tubes and flaps for my next TT project. Thanks to my buddys Joe and his dad Duane who is 86 today.

If it is under 1320 lbs loaded, no license required, but no operating at night, above 10,000 feet, or in a metro area.
Just Saying, LOL!

I worked as a construction Boilermaker for over 30 years. I was a "heavy rigger" and handled many loads in the 100 ton or more weights. But I do not have a clue what I see in the picture. ??? What is holding that car up,?? If we rigged something like that, they would have fired the entire crew as well as all formans, and probably would lose all future contracts !!!
OK, I'm done ranting, looks like a nice project

My buddy Joe has his old truck crane with a strap around the frame at body mounts under the floor. The rear is chained around reat axle . Two lifting points. With no ramps, this was the plan we came up with and worked very well. The truck crane could have taken all the weight but center balance was a concern. Better to be lucky than good?

I see the truck hoist in the background now!
Who else thought they pulled the car out of the truck with the backhoe and let it flop to the ground?
It looks like you took the picture mid-flop!

Ol' Dave Gingery, the guy that taught us how to make metal working machinery from beer cans and your neighbor's storm door, would've said "If it works, that's the right way to do it."
I had to look hard too. A telephone pole in the background with a wired remote? Aha...
Cool pic!

Re: Do I need a pilots licence for this thing?
Dallas, I can see it now .. With everything in a line , my mind (what little is left) could only see a telephone pole, instead of a crane boom. It looked like a chain went from the loader bucket, under the car, and hooked to the back of the truck, forming a "cradle" supporting the car. Thru the years of construction rigging, I have seen worse rigging than a "chain cradle". So nothing would surprise me. After I can see what you explained , I retract and apologize for doubting ya'lls rigging ability. .
Please post some more pics of the car .

Re: Do I need a pilots licence for this thing?
Donnie, I have done way scarier things than that! I never thought about that photo till some of the posts. It does look like a pole. The scary part was that the backhoe had no brakes. None. Joe's dad was moving blocks behind the wheels as we went. Being on the fire department 34 years kind of forced me to be a problem solver. Just need a git er done attitude!
