Steve claims he needed an escort on the Interstate. Good thing he did not notice that cracked windshield. I think he was just picking on you because you are from Kansas.

Just a wave of the hand and the words "These are not the droids you are

Call it profiling, but I think most here would agree that one look at
Steve and the way he dresses and the word "rabble-rouser" immediately
comes to mind. Like a tornado a-coming, ... best to hide your wives and
daughters and get the chickens in the henhouse when you see that machine
heading your way.

On most - if not all - Federal Interstates - the minimum speed limit is 45 mph.

You should not be on the Interstate under normal driving conditions unless you can maintain that speed.

It's kind of a case of, "Yes, but..." I suspect that state and county roads that cross the Mississippi on bridges are pretty much few and far between. Steve's solution seems like a good one. The St. Louis Model T club did the same thing a few years ago when our Overnight Tour started by crossing the Jefferson Barracks Bridge on I-255. In that case, a couple of St. Louis County police cars escorted us across. Even without the police cars, the bridges tend to be four lanes wide in each direction with a lane-width shoulder. If it's not rush hour, it can generally be done safely.

I am not absolutely sure about this? However, I believe that minimum speed limits are left up to the individual states, even on the interstate highways.
Califunny is famous for its waffling on minimum speed limits. They do NOT have a minimum speed limit on any road in the state, including the interstate highways. HOWEVER! There is a law which states that one cannot drive so slowly as to be a hazard. THAT is left up to the interpretation of the individual officers. Many people, including a few I have personally known, have been given tickets for "impeding the flow of traffic" even when they were doing ten or more miles per hour OVER the posted speed limit! SOMETIMES judges will dismiss such offenses, sometimes they impose fines for being a hazard in spite of the fact the actual posted limit was violated.

In this case the officer had no problem with following me over at whatever speed I was going. I think it was probably about 40 mph. I had to run down to that area on Saturday morning. As I drove down there, I thought this would be a nice Model T ride. And at the same time wondered if Steve would make it this far south. Have a good trip.

A few months ago I was driving in the afternoon along I -5 north of Los Angelea in moderately heavy traffic.

I was in the curb lane doing 55 mph ( the maximum speed limit for pulling a trailer ).

CHP cruiser pulled up alongside me in the left lane - dropped back - then pulled ahead.

A few miles later I passed him on the shoulder.

He lit up and pulled me over.

Told me I was “ impeding the flow of traffic “ doing the speed limit at 55 mph.

He went back to his cruiser - was there a few minutes - then ran up on my passenger side & gave me back my paperwork whilst telling me he had an emergency call and it “ was my lucky day “.

He blocked the curb lane so I could enter traffic and sped off.

I took the next exit and used the access road for the next hour.

I don’t believe I was impeding traffic - but California is in dire need of revenue - this year for the first time I am moving more vehicles out of state for owners relocating than for cars being sold.

California is the worst state to drive thru if you are having to navigate major metropolitan areas.

According to a CHP officer, California has no minimum speed limit provided there is a passing lane. This includes our freeways. If you are on a single lane roadway with five or more vehicles behind you, you must pull over to the right shoulder WHEN IT IS SAFE to do so to allow the cars behind you to pass.
