A Couple of New Forum Questions

Post by HPetrino » Mon Jan 07, 2019 12:14 pm

Forgive me. This stuff is probably covered already, but if so I missed it. My two questions:

1. On the 2018 forum thread titles were listed in blue. Once I read any particular thread the title was then in red until someone added a response. Then it went back to blue in it's new "top of the list" position. This feature made it easy for me to know what I've already seen and what's new. The 2019 Forum does not seem to have this feature. Is there a way to "turn it on"??

2. In the new forum to the left of the titles is a circle with either lines (like a paragraph symbol) or just 2 lines and a large exclamation point. For the life of me I can't figure our what they mean. What do they signify?

Thanks for any enlightenment!!!

Henry, you may have inadvertently answered your first question with the second one. As I am understanding it, if the lines are red in a red circle then you haven't read the whole thread. If you refresh the screen and the lines are black in a blue circle, you have read the thread. Mind you, I'm not completely sure of much of anything as I wander around the new format, but I think that what I just said is correct.

Thanks Dick. You're right. I did a little experimenting and I think I have it figured out. However, I still am curious as to the meaning of the symbols to the left (the same ones that are red or blue).

If the Circle is BLUE, it means you have read everything in the thread.

If the Circle is RED, it means you haven't read it.

If the Circle is RED, and contains an EXCLAMATION POINT, it means you've read that thread before but now there are additional posts within the thread that you haven't read.

If you want notifications, you have to address those in your user control panel.

You can also subscribe to each thread, by clicking on the wrench icon.

I'm also pretty sure if you see a tiny star on the circle, it means you've participated in the discussion on that thread.

I figured out the color meaning. What I'm curious about is the different symbols. Most are a series of lines that look like a paragraph but a few are just 2 lines with a large exclamation point under them. What's the difference in meaning?

the lines mean it's a popular thread with many responses. Eventually you may see them scrolling.

The exclamation point is just new responses that you haven't read.

Dave, IF I understand correctly you can have a PM sent to your email also. :)
By default I think it lets you know if you have a PM up in the right hand corner by your user name if you reload/refresh the page and you can click on it or right click it and open a new tab to see the PM.
I think if you click on your user name up in the corner, a box will drop down and then you can click on User Control Panel button.
Then click on Board preferences.
Next, click on Edit notification options. On the bottom it should say Someone sends you a private message. Notifications is checked by default I think.
Click the email column box so a check mark is in there.
Should send a PM to your email as well. :)
IF you decide that the site itself does NOT let you know you have a PM, you can uncheck the notifications box in that column and then you rely on your email only (like the old site) to let you know you have a PM. :)
Try it.
Let me know if this helped. :)
Since I lost my mind mind, I feel more liberated

Still working on it Duey.
I was told I had a message by a fellow, and I got nothings.
Had to change a setting, but saw nothing about notifications.
I don't think he tried again yet. I will see... :?

I would always use the back button to go back to the forum, it worked fine on the old marking that post as read.
Doesn’t work that way on the new, have to use the “back to the forum” deal at the very bottom. It will then mark that topic as read.

Ok, I received a PM but got no notice in my email. The only thing I see that can be changed (I need to check again on my PC), is how long messages are stored or to not get them...

If someone decides to go to the forum via the MTFCA website, the link is not there yet.

It's there sometimes for me. By that, sometimes I see the link and sometimes I don't. I think, when I see it, I click all the way back to the main home screen.
