Ideas to remove starter front bushing

Post by Autie » Fri Oct 11, 2019 7:55 pm

Back again! Need suggestion on how to remove the front shaft bushing for the starter. The one pictured in the service book looks like a oversized threaded shaft is screwed into the bushing, then the threaded shaft goes through a plate with a nut on the opposite side to turn, pulling the threaded shaft up along w/the bushing while being held in a vice. Easy enough to make IF this is how it is done.

The front shaft bushing is the brush end bushing. The easy way to pull it is a 9/16" course tap. Just thread the bushing with the tap and let the end of the tap seat against the blind hole, keep turning and it will pull the bushing right out whether it is babbitt or brass.
