Re: Foto of the Day
The perfect place for it. I am using flat fenders for my hat and the glasses can balance on top of it.
Also, Happy New Page.

Like T parts these Maxwell axles have their charm. A friend had them and thought they were Buick because a couple of the rim clamps said Buick on them. He thought I might be able to use them and I did.

This was at the hardware store today. Had to ask the guy to show it to me. Really had to twist his arm, wink wink. 1930 Essex he has owened for 63 years. He told me he is 80 yrs old till Thursday. He said he paid $45 for it. He tried to buy a 23 T but the old guy would not sell it to him because he was just a kid, so he bought this.

View from Keller Peak lookout station 7,844' elevation. This one of places on our tour this week. It is near Big Bear Lake in the San Bernadino Mountains in southern California. 360' view can see about 100 miles in every direction on a clear day. This picture shows where we parked. Then we had to climb ladders up to the lookout tower.

This old truck bed has been a storage spot in the backyard for many years. I enjoy checking the decomposing tire. Old cord threads fascinate me.

The oblique angle of a warm late afternoon sun creates a nice shadowing across the raised
embossing on the cast iron case of an old Lincoln transmission. The stone-hard grease, rust,
and lichen provide further artful ambiance. This is why I own a TT truck. If an explanation is
needed, the person asking simply would not understand.

We seem to find many places to put things out of the way. There isn't always a plan to follow on what goes where. The results are sometimes pleasing to the eye. (or not)

Re: Foto of the Day
This pic could have been taken today, but it was actually last year, at exactly this time
of year, during that brief moment when the leaves are bright yellow. I was hauling roofing
materials to a job and stopped at the old road crossing of the abandoned trolley line to
Cheney, which you see behind the truck. The sun was fighting to burn off a heavy fog in
the low ground areas all day.

It’s frustrating sometimes going to the scrap yard, people throw away the stuff that I could never part with
Not to mention the price of steel really sucks right now...$70 gross ton. About 3 years ago it was $220 !!

Was out in the T yesterday just before sunset and these guys were right on the edge of the road. Literally just a few feet from the car.
We hollered at then and they ignored us.

We've talked before on the Forum about what tools to carry in our Model T's. Sounds like (in Texas, at least) there's a tool made by Winchester that would be pretty useful.

Re: Foto of the Day
I like an extra blanket this time of year too.
Studying the old parts we see the remains of a paint run on the coil-box at left. I have several parts where a run or wrinkle is the only remaining paint.
To me the crack in the speedometer lens and rust around the rim are very charming. The face-plate has faded in grays and blues and a touch of orange/brown rust. Patina is a collage many shades and colors. Because I like to paint it, it has become so very intriguing to me. The morning light through the window brings out a lot of this.
Working in the shop with all this beauty around us we don't often stop to appreciate it but when we see it in a photo it certainly is familiar.
Just one more reason I like being around the old stuff.

Re: Foto of the Day
Nothing is worse in life than vinyl siding, fencing, and other ultra-sterile environment
shapers. It is the antithesis of organic. The wifeperson works with a number of oldsters,
some of which are selling the farm or family home and moving into these "senior centers",
complete with all that sterile yuck, right down to the corporate landscaping and smell of
disinfectants. Mmmmm ..... so warm and inviting !
She asked me a while back if I would ever consider selling it all and living in a place like
that, suggesting that it would be so clean, .... neat, .... orderly, .... etc. I told her that
I might come to see her once in a while, but that I'd rather be dead that be stripped of the
ambiance of rust and weathered wood, replace the smells of the wood stack with Lysol
and floor polish.
Last year I was climbing all over the hills of Colorado, following the route of a telephone
line built in 1880. I stopped to take a series of photos of a pole, high on a rock outcropping
that captures the sun and sky, the smell of the juniper and dust and sagebrush, the lichens
that contrast with the weathered granite, the rust of the metal and the weathered wood.
For those who know such things and places, you can smell the peculiar scent of the sun's
warmth on the metal. On the rocks. You can feel the breeze as it sweeps across the cliff.
This is what I live for. Most people will have no idea what I am talking about and ask the
salesman to show them the color options for a new vinyl siding job.

Those old cigar boxes are around because “grandpa” used to buy 25 cigars at a time. Cigars still come in cigar boxes. I’ve got a couple of recent boxes on my shelf. But now, the trendy folks just buy one or two cigars at a time, so the boxes are discarded like the warehouse store cardboard cases after the product is gone.Rich Eagle wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 8:30 amWe used to have cigar boxes around. Now, not so much. They are delightful.

Re: Foto of the Day
The No. 28 is a carryover from the previous racer body I had on this chassis. It also carried that number. When I quit racing I sold the body to Lewis Rector of the Towe Museum and used the money to buy materials for the C-cab body which was also discarded as time went by.
It served us well from 1982 til about 2000. I kind of miss it now.
A local old timer remembered it as one of the old Idaho Falls phone trucks. I couldn't burst his bubble.

No Dave, this was 2014. While loading the tree on the Coupe I was asked "You didn't drive that here did you?" We haven't got the snow or the tree this year yet.
I always love the comments.
Thanks

We used to pull sleds, or car hoods, behind cars all of the time when we were young back in the '60's-'70's, even pulled our kids some in the late '80's. No doubt, we would be arrested for child endangerment now. Dave
