Weight of bare chassis
Does anyone know how much the chassis weighs on a 26/27 Model T?
I can find info on a running chassis, i.e. a car without a body but nothing on the bare chassis (no engine, transmission, axles etc).

Re: Weight of bare chassis
John,
I do not know the exact weight but I can stand between the rails, pick ours up, and easily walk with it. Bare frame with running board brackets and brake quadrant. I would guess between 50 and 75 pounds but that's just a guess. It might be as much as 100 lb. It's more awkward than anything else.
Good Luck,
Terry

Re: Weight of bare chassis
Might be easier to ask if anyone know how much just the bare Model T frame weighs. If you are looking to have one shipped, it could be the size more then the weight that would give you the cost. Add onto that if or if not the running board brackets are attached.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

Re: Weight of bare chassis
Would not a chassis be defined as a complete car that is just missing a body? Frame, axles, wheels, and motor.

Re: Weight of bare chassis
I have always understood the chassis usually means a frame with wheels, engine, transmission and differential. It seems that way to me anyway.

Re: Weight of bare chassis
The topic author stipulated: No engine, transmission, axles, etc. I would take that to mean a bare frame.

Re: Weight of bare chassis
So, when we tire of type of oil to use, kind of transmission bands to use, waterpump or no, we can talk about the differences between chassis, rolling chassis and frame...no?
Wikipedia sets the tone with these two definitions....(prelude to the coming cabin fever season):
An example of a chassis is a vehicle frame, the underpart of a motor vehicle, on which the body is mounted; if the running gear such as wheels and transmission, and sometimes even the driver's seat, are included, then the assembly is described as a rolling chassis.
OR
What is difference between frame and chassis?
A chassis is the skeletal framework of a vehicle on which most of the mechanical parts like tires, axle assemblies, steering, brakes, and the engine are fastened. ... A vehicle frame, on the other hand, is the main structure of the chassis. All the other components, including the chassis, are fastened to the frame.

Re: Weight of bare chassis
So, what John should have asked for is the weight of the frame since the chassis is obviously much heavier due to having more components than a frame I think …..
Oh wait. I have something else to do!

Re: Weight of bare chassis
Weight of a bear chassis - variable. Black bears weigh anywhere between 90 to 600 lbs. Grizzlies can weigh over 1,000. Bare bear chassis ? Bare bones, figure 12 - 14 % of live weight.

Re: Weight of bare chassis
A '26 chassis without out engine, axles etc is about 50 -75 lbs else I couldn't left it up.
The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.
