Rumble Seat Garage - the new racer - Chris Egsgaard’s 1973 Long Beach champ

Post by AdminJeff » Sun Oct 20, 2019 9:23 pm

I’m super proud to be a small part of the team that’s putting Robert Weitzel’s new race car together. With any luck he and Erik Barrett will make the Santa Margarita races next weekend.

I’m not going to give background on the car as Robert has the full scoop, but I wired the whole thing from scratch this weekend. It came out great. My time creating custom wiring looms and switchboards for my 911 race car is paying off in spades! I can say making spark plug wires sucks!

Last report a few minutes ago was they are making gaskets for the intake and might fire it up around 9pm pst tonite (that means after midnight). My fingers are crossed that the red and green wires aren’t crossed!

Love it. I studied this car a lot before and while building mine as it's one of my favorites. I'm glad it will live again.

The car is ready to go and will race for the first time since Long Beach on Saturday at Santa Margarita. This is not a hill climb, it is vintage drag racing, so we will have a chance to spank some flathead V8’s too.

Admin Jeff did a fabulous job wiring the car. You can tell he is used to working with high end cars. Very meticulous. The car had a quarter mile test drive today and went into the trailer for the races. Robert came back kind of pale so I think it is running well. We are southbound at this time on I-5. Stay tuned for updates.

If you think he is pale you should have seen him after the first time I turned him loose with the Wild Cherry II. He was ashen, absolutely terrified.

I just got an update from Erik and Robert. They got a couple good runs in today beating a certain Dan McEachern on one run, and then had fuel pump problems. Still, fun was had by all.

White knuckles with a pale face are a good sign!

Go Robert Go!
