Ford T Town car
We in India are restoring a Ford Model T Town car. We have two questions regarding the spare wheel.
1. Did the town cars have spare wheels which was mounted on the side?
2. In some discussions which we came across, the town cars never had any mounted spare wheels.
Please clarify which of the above is correct.

Re: Ford T Town car
Anath, in previous posts, I think it was generally agreed that the town car you are restoring is most likely a coachbuilt car rather than a Ford produced one. Thus, you are largely free to restore it as you wish. If you need a mounted spare tyre, put it where it is most convenient. If the cab is difficult to get into on the driver's side, and the handbrake gets in the way, then the running board is a a good spot. It really is up to you.

Re: Ford T Town car
Anath, let’s see some pictures of your progress of restoration. I have my spares on the drivers side running board. The front and back wheels on mine are different size. The body on my towncar is all wood and no doors in the front unlike yours which is all metal. As Allen stated, you can mount the spare anywhere you like as long as it is not in the way of getting in and out of the car. I have seen a towncar with one spare in the back but they had all four wheels same size. You have the option to do whatever you want since there is no other towncar in India to compare it to. Frank

Anath:
There are also photos of Town Cars where a spare is located on the fixed roof above the driver. Those that I have seen also have a short rail mounted to the same roof, that surrounds the spare.
Regards,
Scott

Re: Ford T Town car
This shows a RH Drive 1912 T/C with the roof rail installed. I will assume that there is a roof mounted fixture for securing a spare, when used. This photo does not clearly show the wire fencing that is part of this rail assembly.

Not sure what the deal was there. Had to go to the website where I found this and re-copy it to get it to go. Guess I corrupted something.

Re: Ford T Town car
Scott, you have a beautiful towncar, why didn’t you just post a picture of it. I finally removed the temporary running gear from mine and will have the original motor in it and running soon. Frank

Re: Ford T Town car
Glad to oblige. The accompanying car in the foreground is Jim Finney's fabulous 1912 original. Town Cars don't come anymore rare that this one. Jim allowed me to measure and photograph this car which resulted in mine. Not shown is Jim's original coach interior with windows shades, jump seats, and embroidered fabric trim. The color scheme has been changed over the decades, but was very tastefully done by the late Paul Antonucci. Truly a sight to see.

Scott

Re: Ford T Town car
Scott, thank you for the beautiful picture of your and Jim’s towncar. I am absolutely druwling on my iPad looking at those beauties. You know I took all your advices and tried to make mine as beautiful as yours. I see Jim’s roof trim is exactly as you told me to make mine. I am working on that. Thank you!!!!!!! ( I don’t know how to spell salivating, sorry)
