The one on the left is correct. Just because a part has a 1912 patent date doesn't make it a 1912! Maple City, Mfg. also made oil cans for that era with a double Ford script.

Thank you very much for these explanations

$500 for a nice one?

(It’s in my personal collection but most things do have their price...)

I do not know for sure which oil can is proper for a 1912 Model T, but I think the Noera Mfg. Co. with the double Ford scripts, and the Maple City with the double Ford scripts are the earliest. I think that is what Larry Smith was referring to in his comment. I may be wrong, but I do not know if anyone knows for sure. If you have the Vintage Ford from July/August 2015, there is a very good article by Roy Hess about the Ford oil cans. He shows 16 different types. I do not have all of the types that he shows, but I have a couple that he did not find.
The two that I think are the earliest, and probably proper for the 1912, have smaller openings for filling them and have small Ford scripts in two locations high on the shoulder of the can.

Michael A,
If you think that the Noera Mfg. can with the patent information stamped on the cover, like the photos that you posted, is right for your 1912, I have an extra one like that. Send a private message for more information.
