1909-10 sidelight brackets
I am having a discussion with a friend and we would like to know if the 1909-10 brackets were originally made out of cast brass or pressed steel and brass plated. I have seen them both ways. It seems to me that originally they were brass plated steel. Can anyone shed light on this?

The side light brackets were pressed steel and brass plated as were the fire wall riser to windshield brackets. Tail light bracket was cast steel and brass plated as well.

Steel and brass plated. Many other parts on the 09/10 Models were steel and bras plated including the emergency brake lever.

The spark and throttle rods and hand crank were also brass plated steel.

Re: 1909-10 sidelight brackets
Alex: I cast them in Yellow brass because of the marginal quality of today's brass plating. Originals are heavy brass plated that can be repeatedly polished without wiping the brass off. You can lacquer coat these, but this is temporary protection and will rapidly tarnish under the lacquer. Some have cautioned that cast brass is weaker and therefore prone to a failure. This could be true if your casting alloy is junk, or if you are trying to use this bracket to jack up the car. You will not bend or break these parts by accidentally bumping them.
