An Old Ford Sign From England

Post by J1MGOLDEN » Wed Jan 30, 2019 4:18 pm

I recently bought this old ford sign at an estate sale.

No one there knew anything about it, except the deceased couple had an extensive collection of antiques and traveled all over to get them.

They specialized in English pottery and may have traveled there to buy some of their items.

Could anyone provide me with any additional information on this sign, as to history, etc.

The sign appears to be quite old and is 3 feet across.

I certainly hope you didn't pay too much for it as it's a newly created fantasy piece, intended as a decorative item only. They are of course painted to look old and can be quite deceiving.

I was thinking it looked awfully new for it to be old...
It's cool, but not valuable.

I was pleased to see it. It fooled me but I do enjoy that they took some time to give it the flavor an old sign might have.
Thanks all.

When did I do that?

The giveaway is the Model T so prominent. It would have been known simply as the Ford car back then, or 20hp Ford. But it is nicely done, somewhere I have a list of Ford dealers for 1911, see if the name is authentic.

Here is a real one, and old. On display at the auto repair / supply shop in Beamish. Beamish, world famous open air museum, telling the story of life in North East England during the 1820s, 1900s & 1940s.

Was on the wall along with lots of other early auto stuff! Took this picture on visit there last May. ;)

Yes Dan, that is an authentic porcelain sign, they're about 6 x4. I've been offered a couple over the years at silly prices. About 30 yrs ago a friend found a fence made of 15, with various different slogans. Somewhere I have a photo from when he displayed them at a show. Pretty sure he still has them

Dane, I have that same sign. I found it in my wife's cousin's antiques/general store outside of Killarney when we visited Ireland in 1996.
