Henry needed a locking steering wheel
Tidbit from the past, April 28, 1922 news report.
If this newspaper report is true, guess Mr. Ford didn't have a driver that day or that guy may have left the car alone.
By 1922, Henry Ford driving a car on the streets of Detroit perhaps would have backed up traffic

The best way is always the simplest. The attics of the world are cluttered up with complicated failures. Henry Ford

Re: Henry needed a locking steering wheel
I’ve got this on my TT. I’ve been told not to mess with it as it could go into freewheel and is almost impossible to lock again without key! I don’t mess.

Interesting story!
This would be a good story for the Unsolved Mysteries TV show. Guess we will never know if the car was ever found. Maybe a good reporter would found out if the car was found.

Re: Henry needed a locking steering wheel
I needed to "unlock" mine to get the cover off the steering box. While it was apart, I fized the mechanism and had a local locksmith make a new pair of keys for it...
Not that anyone could figure out how to start it, but it's nice that it works! (And yes, you never know when some rascallion will try to pilfer my pride and joy)...
BTW - I really like that deep dished fatman... very cool find!

Re: Henry needed a locking steering wheel
My 1922 Coupe had a locking steering wheel with the original key (which works) when I bought it. It's still on the car today.

Re: Henry needed a locking steering wheel
There is or was a Model T Coupe in the Ford Museum that Henry Ford drove. As I remember, it was a 22 or 23 style. It had been Upgraded several times. It had a 26-27 rear end and other improvements. Henry used a big auto for family use. Before he bought the Lincoln Co. he used other big makes. He drove a preproduction 1909 Model T on a trial trip in 1908. He did drive a Model K and "bragged about its speed."
