Identification of car in a family photo

Post by John Page » Sat Dec 21, 2019 7:45 pm

Hello All,

A friend has asked me to see if I can identify the make of car in the attached photo.

I know that it is not a Ford so please forgive me with this O.T. request. The photo was taken in Australian.
( A lot better result on the General Forum with all the knowledgeable people who post here. )

Hope someone can help!!!

Best regards, John Page, Australian.

I have been looking on the internet at pictures of 1930s prestige cars like Cadillac and Packard. Cadillac seems to be the closest, except for the wood wheels that appear to be on the car in the photo I posted. I appreciate that a lot of our Forum Members have taken the time to look at this thread.

Best regards, John Page. Australia.

A common comment on today's cars is, ''They all look the same'. Even back then, car makers were reluctant to go out on a limb in styling. Think of the Chrysler Airflow. About the only differences in John's post and the Stutz is the shape of the visor, the hood vents and the shape/mounting height of the headlights. Might the high mounted lights in John's post be a clue for someone.

Both Lincoln and Graeme Paige had high mounted headlamps of that shape, but the side vents on the bonnet (hood) are completely different.
Still thinking!

Seems that the 1930 Hudson 'Greater Eight' fits the bill

I agree with Dane - Hudson Essex - The photo I added is for a 1931 Hudson Essex and this link has several photos of the car inside and out.

The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.
