Pen and ink and sketches.
I know some of our members do great sketches of model T era bits and pieces. Feel free to post some.

Geeze Rich, nice work. I did some cartoon and illustration work for the commercial sector back in the day but I must say your artwork is far better. I always enjoy seeing what you have created.

Re: Pen and ink and sketches.
This is "Model T era" but not Model T. This post may be booted because of that. This is a charcoal drawing that I did 30 years ago. This was a local '24 Dodge Brothers Business Coupe that I almost bought.

Re: Pen and ink and sketches.
That is Awesome Mark. I will post some non-Ford but T era stuff as time permits.
That sort of thing is good contrast to the Model T and certainly is relative.
Thanks

This was given to me by a friend. After seeing my TT when I got it, he said I should have it. One of my favorites.
Re: Pen and ink and sketches.
Outstanding. Excellent sketches. I have the same TT picture.

When I drew this for a local swap meet poster I was reminded that the wagon should sit much lower in back carrying that many Model T blocks.

In the movie "Goldfinger", they put an entire crushed Lincoln in the back of a Ranchero and it didn't even bulge the tires. Rich isn't breaking new ground here.

Re: Pen and ink and sketches.
Years ago,I had a rear end from a model T that had obviously been used to haul heavy loads. It had wooden blocks carved out of four by six blocks of wood carefully fitted between the rear spring and the axle housings. Of course the rear housings were bent so badly the ring gear ground completely through the center of the housing (I still have that housing doing service as the base for my "welding butler" if anyone wants to come by and see it!), all the bearings were the worst I ever saw. I did actually salvage a few pieces out of it, although all in all it was a really bad rear end. But I would bet it didn't sit very low when loaded.

This may be a 26 or earlier Lincoln touring car. I took a photo on tour but can't recall which one.

This is a pencil sketch of Con Fletcher's Stanley "H" 20 HP. Although he is in Colorado the car has a Penna. plate. I don't do much in pencil.

I'm really enjoying these, Rich !! Thanks for posting them. You kinda do them a disservice by calling them "sketches". They are very refined, finished ink drawings ! (I remember that Packard - gosh, '91 seems a long time ago )

Re: Pen and ink and sketches.
All great stuff. We have a lot of very artistic people among us. I always enjoy seeing Rich's art work in addition to his shop skills. On Oct. 28, I particularly enjoyed seeing his rendering of Conrad Fletcher's model H Stanley.
Many years ago I was quite involved with Stanley's, it was during that time I had the pleasure of building the body for Con's then model H Stanley project. The car turned out amazing when it's restoration was completed.

Yup! John Deneuser (R.I.P.) for sure! (....not sure I spelled that correctly however). I bought a couple items from John at Chickasha!

Re: Pen and ink and sketches.
Thanks Harold. That is John in the sketch. What a character he was. I worked from a Steve Jelf photo and asked Steve if I could work from it. He said to ask John so I did. John didn't answer my request so I didn't use the sketch.
We have lost too many great car folks like him and a few from our local group just this year.
I will try to keep these in the sketches in the Model T era but here is one of a '47 Ford we had for a while. It was not near as satisfying as the T's for me. It had a 6-cyl engine. It was a good engine but the old flathead 8's were more fun.

Well, I was drafting supervisor over mechanical, electrical and piping at the Naval reactor facility on the Idaho desert in the mid seventies. She came to work there. Eventually I took her for a Winter ride in my Speedster and she fell in love with it.

So many Model Ts were running around in 1932 when this Buick was new. The car belonged to my friend Ed Curry in Utah.

Thanks John. I'll see if I can find a Maxwell. I recall my High School Art teacher doing a wonderful thumbnail sketch of an early T and Maxwell at some event back East. I believe this is a '34 Packard from Utah.

Re: Pen and ink and sketches.
I think it is whatever we say it is. I looked at a lot of photos trying to find what yours would look like. I'm not sure they were all AA's.
I may add some red color to it. Are your fenders red or black?
Thanks

Re: Pen and ink and sketches.
The only noticeable differences between the 1910 AA and the 1911 AB was the color and the radiator neck. My 1911 AB is supposed to be blue with cream wheels and would also have the tall radiator neck. I am planning to put on laced spoke wheels, ( model T ), and I will be painting it blue with black fenders. here are some early photos of mine. In these photosit has model T wheels and side lights, I have the correct lights now and will keep the little bed. I was playing around with an AA brochure to see how the wheels might look and I raised the filler neck. Thanks Rich, your art is amazing!

Re: Pen and ink and sketches.
This was created to try to capture the 2018 Glidden Tour directors vision. I seldom get work for others done as it's hard to morph their ideas into my head. He wanted an old car steaming up a hill with the Shoshone falls appearing in the vapor. By using Photoshop for the steam and covering it with the required logos and lettering it became what it is. I was more pleased with the smaller image on the tour banners. Less is often better.

Re: Pen and ink and sketches.
Thanks for mentioning it Henry and Keith. Most of these I have done for my own enjoyment and would sit in a drawer otherwise. It is nice to put them on the Forum where others can enjoy them. Now I do a piece or two with the Forum in mind.
I was asked to do the logo for two Gliddens in a row. The first one our chapter hosted in Cody, WY. The second we helped the Utah chapter on the one in Twin Falls, ID. Here is the Cody logo. I can't thank Chris and Jeff enough for keeping this going. Also those who support it and contribute to it. It is such inspiration to us all.

Re: Pen and ink and sketches.
I'm glad you could supplement your income Perry. It's amassing what people will pay for these as well as for the cars. My Uncle Mitch told me two things after the success of his book recounting stories of his friends and relatives buying their first can of Spam. "Know your Market" and "After 10 or 12 million the the money isn't as important anymore".
Isn't it great to have things we do just for the enjoyment of doing them?
Thanks

Re: Pen and ink and sketches.
As a teenager in the seventies I thought a Mercer would be a great car to have. Seeing one sell for $30,000 shattered my dreams. I still drew pictures and did paintings of them. Getting to ride in one years later was no disappointment. (1913)

So, the next best thing to a Mercer was to build a Model T Speedster. A photo on an early "Hemmings" started the wheels turning and sketches began.

Re: Pen and ink and sketches.
My apologies to Rich, these aren't up to an artist's standard, but they are 'pen' (ball point variety) sketches I did to go with my "Fixing Noises" article for the Morris Bullnose club (I gave up trying to fix noises in my T long ago! )
You can have fun even if you don't know the technical side
(yes, I did fix the noise which was a worn universal joint - in true British fashion it was made of lots of parts, nicely cast bronze and a bear to remove and reinstall)

Re: Pen and ink and sketches.
The whole point of sketching is to enjoy the process. If you end up with something you like that is like icing on the cake. Whether you do this with a few lines or many lines is immaterial. It looks to me as if you accomplished this splendidly. Look at some of the simple things Leonardo da Vinci and other did.
Thanks for posting.

Thanks Leo. I got an early start last Fall on the artwork. I started this one but got too carried away on it. It would have been too busy for the poster or the brass plaque. Sometimes it's hard to stop.

Ok Rich, you and I talked about this before and I decided to dig up a couple of things from 1998 or so when I was working in design and illustration. Both of these were T shirt designs that I did. One was for our local club. I still do cartoons for our club on occasion. I very much enjoy seeing your work.

Rich, Here is one of the photographs that was based on the sketch. Most people probably don’t realize that some fine art photographers often do preliminary sketches for their photographs.

Re: Pen and ink and sketches.
This time of year reminds me of the sketch I did for a nice lady in Florida. She wanted something with an old car for her Christmas card.

It was repurposed from this painting I did in 2009:https://mtfca.com/phpBB3/download/file.php?id=9912&t=1

Re: Pen and ink and sketches.
I ran across this unfinished one today. The faces created by a National Lampoon and greeting card artist seemed well suited to me for the Thomas Flyer bogged down in the mud.

I think you started that one in 1969 and then left for Woodstock. I remember talking to you about it while Jimmy Hendricks was on stage. I'm sure I could share the reason you didn't finish it but I won't do that to you on this forum!

Sorry, this isn't pen and ink but I sure do love this. Artist unknown.

Re: Pen and ink and sketches.
It almost looks like a re-touched photograph doesn't it? I believe the car was a Center-door Sedan. The pillar posts, windshield hardware and drivers seat seem to be that.
Old style fun for sure.

Re: Pen and ink and sketches.
These two were drawn in the late '60s. The first one was when I was contemplating building mine and the second after it was built.
The garage behind it was my parents place where I lived and built it while going to school. When did I do that?

Pantone TRIA Markers are pretty wonderful to use. I haven't really done enough with them.

Boy,it's been a while since I looked at this thread. Moving 45,000++ lbs of crap to Idaho from CA and building a new shop takes a lot longer than you might think. But I see so much amazing talent here is still the order of the day. Such fantastic and impressive artwork!
Rich, I may have to stop by to see you one day as my wife and I start to explore Idaho. I'm permanently in Wilder ID now on a 10ac farm and loving it.

Re: Pen and ink and sketches.
Welcome to Idaho Jeff. We would love to see you when you have time. It's a bit crazy right now but after the first of the year things should be back to normal. We have a daughter in Boise so maybe we'll get over your way.
The sketches are fun and I'm pleased others have posted some of theirs here.
Take Care.
