Tyrone had worked as a teller at the "River Bank" before becoming a mushroom magnate. He left after going through withdrawals and the mushroom business was downstream. Some may recall his basketball fame.
Artichoke steaks and barbecued cantaloupe were best sellers into the following year.
At one time Rust-o-leon was made completely out of fish. Of course the DEWA declared that malapropos in 1944.
Here we see the two of them on the way to the cannery

Obviously the last photo was taken on backwards day!
There is not too much documentation about that. Can you elaborate on that?

It's simply a reflection from across the street. Tyrone was obviously left handed.
The Mushroom/Meatless Store also sold Velocipedes. 1, 2 and 3 wheeled conveyances as show. The one in question was of course a 3 wheeler with jump seat. Jumping could increase the speed by nearly 10%.
Rumor has it some were equipped with a Teeter Totter which reportedly reached 132 mph on the Chugwater Flats salt beds. Pepper was also sometimes used.
But back to the original story......

The making of meatless meats was a backbreaking process.

One of the primary factors in the meatless meat market was the discovery of gelatin
on the Upper Terrace and plains beyond in 1902. By 1910, gelatin wells had sprung up
all over the area and a booming business was had. Hubrus Zamboni was Mayor, and is
seen here with Sheriff Pugalstick Thwapp. Things were different then, and weeks were
only three days long. That didn't leave much time to get things done.

Looking closely at that last photo it appears there are dinosaur decomposition pumping towers along the length of the street. Was that the Chugwater main drag or had the drag lines diminished by that day?

Shoolaces had a little bit to say about that subject, when KD was
pondering the sameness of fish and paint:

Sit beside the breakfast table
and think about your troubles
Pour yourself a cup of tea
and think about the bubbles
You can take a teardrop
and drop it in a teacup
Take it down to the river's side
and throw it over the side
To be swept up by a current
and taken to the ocean
To be eaten by some fishes
Who were eaten by some fishes
and swallowed by a whale
who grew so old
he decompo'd

He died and left his body
to the bottom of the ocean
Now everybody knows
that when a body decomposes
the basic elements
are given back to the ocean
and the sea does what it oughta
and soon it's salty water
Which is not too good for drinking
cuz it tastes just like a teardrop
So you run it through a filter
and it comes out from a faucet
and you pour it in a teacup
which is just about to bubble
Now ..... think about your troubles

And very well put.
As for Sherriff Thwapp, he was one of the scariest Lawmen of that century. Known to sneak up behind a fellon and let out the most bloodcurdling scream imaginal caught the accused off guard and visibly shaken. He had nearly rund-off the Spadaford Gang but tripped over spittoon and fractured his fortitude. Folks began calling him Thumper because of his nervous foot and he eventually retreated to a cave in Chugwater Canyon. A hermit named Kuthburp was rumored to be a neighbor for a short time.
KD was able to straighten the spittoon so all was not lost.
Mildred Pughmeir wrote a song about it on the Brunswick label.

Very interesting. Pugalstick “Two Gun” Thwapp was a controversial figure at best. His thriftiness bordered on parsimony, evidenced by his recycling his old wanted posters when he was campaigning for sheriff. Further, as the alphabet mines were running thin on “Fs” at the time, he chose to save less than pennies on the print order by doubling up on “Rs”. Tri-burg citizens scarcely noted the difference.

Area residents may have scarcely noticed, but it was what got him elected, running
on the slogan "A parsimonious pot for every penny pincher to piss in". He won by seven
votes.

Somebody asked Sheriff Thwapp once, "Shurf, how come you always tote two'a them ol' forty fives?"

He said, "Cause they don't make forty sixes."

One of Sheriff Thwapp’s more embarrassing encounters was an attempt to enforce Saddlestring’s new morality code. When he attempted to shut down the Dove Cage Saloon, Miss Lulubelle Suggs got the drop on him. Shoving two 38s into his back, Thwapp was disarmed and abandoned his mission. Lulubelle was also carrying a Derringer.

Thwapp’s desultory and ineffectual attempts to enforce the new morality statute raised the ire of the Uvula League’s entire membership. They campaigned tirelessly for years to have him removed from office, and were at last successful. Coincidentally, that was the same year Miss Suggs announced her retirement and closed the “Dove Cage”. Falling mushroom prices were a factor we’re told.

Much of all this was recorded by Merl Frothingcap in his ever-present notebook. Through a myriad of literary contortions it became the basis for the "Gumsmoke" series. Marsha Dillon, Mitch Kittie, and Sylvester the limping deputy not to mention grumpy old Doc all came to life on the little green screen.
It was followed by a Broadway production and two showings on Elm street. South Elm as I recall.
Merl was engaged to Regina Van Pinksberg from 1923 to 1947 but congestion at the viaduct soon put an end to that.
Seems like they had a cat named Zachary.
I remember a radio series also but can't recall the title.

I recall the Broadway production that was loosely adapted from the “Gumsmoke” television program. I believe it was titled “Fanny Get Your Gum”. Oddly, it didn’t really appear on Broadway, but in a theater that burned down on the corner of Capital and A Streets. The establishment was famous for its oversized seats and aisles. Perhaps that’s where the “Broadway” appellation entered in.

Tri-burg old-timers could easily see through the name changes and thinly veiled plots. Thanks to Frothingcap’s meticulous notes, the Gumsmoke episodes closely followed actual events. “Marsha Dillon” was of course, a representation of Lulubelle Suggs, “Mitch Kittie” reflected Sheriff Thwapp’s character, and “Sylvester” the limping deputy no doubt was intended to reprise Cuthbert Maddox, who served as Thwapp’s deputy off and on throughout his term in office. Represented as a half-witted and comically incompetent stumblebum, Maddox’s heirs were extremely offended at that characterization of their progenitor, but after several years of litigation the court at last found in favor of the defendants. It seems evidence the Maddox heirs presented actually proved that Cuthbert really was a half-witted, comically incompetent stumblebum.

Three questions ....

How did that ever get on the court docket when everyone knew Maddox was
not only the President of the Stumblebum's Union, but he was the founder ! ???

Who here hasn't suffered when their viaduct gets congested ?

A product called “Mucilage” advertises heavily, claiming to clear up congestion of all sorts. A 500 gallon load of it was dumped on the viaduct at last report it only made things worse. What was the third question ?

Eleventy-thousand entries into this venerable tome, and no one has shared much
about the actual workings of the Institute Archives. With all the snow, Heinrich happened
by on the Snomoto to share a couple shots of some of the inner workings in the under-
-ground bunker.

Burger, thank you for posting these. It’s true we have been remiss in not sharing such glimpses of the Institute and the archives vaults, even though we have received many such requests from flat-earthers all over the globe. Please thank Heinrich for his thoughtfulness when you see him. I suspect he won’t be able to return to the archives sub-basement until the SnoHog is available to clear off the entry portal. We’re hopeful the contractor will be able to complete the new indoor access soon. The stairwell now reaches from the entry lobby to the first basement, and excavation is within ten vertical feet of the sub-basement floor. It will be cause for celebration when the project is completed. The Institute’s first director initiated this improvement back in 1912. Good things are well worth waiting for, don’t you agree ?

Anyone who has seen Heinrich's Snomoto is bound to be impressed, simply
by its scale. A forerunnner in idea to the "monster truck", this side-by-side
two wheeler is a beast in mud and water, but was truly designed for snow
operation. KD designed and built it during his time living there at the Institute.
Power is the predictable flackenpoth valve configuration, but with multitudinal
injector/ejector semantators, making for a very small propulsion unit, producing
massive amounts of power. They were lean times, and KD built the machine to
run on distillage waste from making Happy Sally. A waste biproduct with no
commercial value and near unlimited supply, the guys at Ernie's were happy to
get rid of it.

Heinrich says it makes small work of the 40' drifts he encounters across the
Scablands south of town, where he still delivers the weekly free paper to ranchers
and other area residents.

Saw some unlabeled photos of that the other day and spectaculated (had to get out the old spectaculators) it might have been a giant hamster wheel used to exercise KD's Capybaras.

Capybara, "one who eats slender leaves" often the Gasinsoda quadriradiata used to strain the waste from making Happy Sally. One of the few critters KD was not allergic to.
The multitudinal injector/ejector semantators were inspired by watching mocking-jays court each other. The male walks sideways down a darkened alley and the female follows as if in a trans. The sliding gears of the trans are of unequal size and pitch. In later years helical. By noon the viscosity of the gear oil has reached the maximum and presto, we have more horsepower.
Try it at home.
Never the less, the Snomoto was difficult to parallel park.

Say what you will about Cuthbert Maddox being a half-witted, comically incompetent stumblebum. The truth is he was a masterful horseman and even recognized by “Horseguys of North Amireca Quarterly”. Shown here getting a jump on Spring sowing vertices at the Helix Mill. It was a fill in job during the off-season at the Estate. Suzie and Magnitude could pull a 4 row Macklebee all morning and still have time for lunch.
Cuthbert wears his stylish black wool coat with sheep lining and matching trousers with a subtle orange stripe. A Twilled California blue flannel work shirt completes the ensemble.

How could the ladies resist ?? Apparently quite easily. It’s true Cuthbert was an able hand with the ponies, and animals in general seemed to love him. People, not so much. Perhaps a lot of the “incompetent stumblebum” assessments had more to do with his utter lack of people skills than a lack of intelligence ? While it’s true Cuthbert was a stylish dresser, he seldom washed his hands after eating. That made no difference, his dogs loved him for himself.

Rich, I’m gratified you were able to find that photo of Maddox and his famous team, Suzie and Magnitude. They were well known in the Tri-burg area for being able to out-pull any team in their weight class. Cuthbert believed his horses should be versatile. Besides her prowess as a draft horse, Suzie was also first rate at cutting cattle. Maddox frequently entered Magnitude in local weekend match races. After winning a Sunday afternoon race, Magnitude would be back on the ranch Monday morning punching cattle, packin’ a 40 pound Hamley saddle. Harnessed with Suzie, the team always finished planting the vertices ahead of schedule and under budget. The Helix mill workers would come out on their lunch break just to see them at work, pulling the 4-row Macklebee.

What, with Cuthbert being Union President and all, he had to always look good
and be "on point" for speaking events and meetings, wherever and whenever they
might arise. I think that today, we would say that he was "on the spectrum" or
was a high-functioning autistic. Socially awkward, but excelling to exceptional
levels on many subjects and activities. An amusing and amazing talent he had
was "guessing" the number of marbles in a barrel, or rocks in a rock pile. People
came from all over the world to try and make a fool of him, but he rarely got it
wrong and won hundreds of bets. They say he had a similar touch for buttering
toast and training cats to yodel. It was based on these two subjects that Kalamity
Dick got the idea for the perpetual motion machine, strapping a piece of buttered
toast to a cat's back. Based on the principle that a cat will always land on its feet,
and toast will always hit the floor buttered-side down, the two forces fight against
each other, spinning in perpetuity when mounted on a drive shaft. Tests were
successful, with increased power generated when more expensive carpet was
placed under the cat/toast. Much like the story of the Tucker automobile, magnates
of existing industry conspired to ensure the technology never made it to general use.
Known to few, this method is still used exclusively in the Happy Sally production
process. Funny how so much of this ties together in the "fabric" of Tri-Burg lore.

Sebastian found this one in the trunk of values. It appears to be Cuthbert mounted on Magnitude. Apparently there is a sizable file of Magnitude in the archives if you know where to look. Sebastian took the first step.

Cuthbert was not a stumblebum as some believed. He was a little backward and very famous around the Tri-berg area for his skills on and with horses. I think there was a song written in his honor. " Like a Flintstone Cowboy" hit number one on all the local low output stations like WTRI. John Stablebell sang the song live. He didnt sing it again after his death.

On the next page we see the Helix mill workers out on their lunch break just to see them at work. Astro, in the single breasted, fly front overcoat with extra heavy double warp Italian cloth lining and navy blue chinchilla collar, often was heard to say "Look at those sons-of a B...h's pull!". Being from the North side he was the more vocal. Most of the gang were pretty quiet muttering a word or two a week.

That's a nice looking animal in the photo Rich and the horse is quite handsome also.
"marbles in a barrel" reminds me of the time Laurel Larvonnet tried to guess how many steps from Ernie's to the Culpeper’s Herbal counter at the drug store. You won't believe it but it turned out to be 273. Isn't it a strange planet?

Laurel Larkvonnet had the distinction of being Medicine Bow’s official town drunk. He won the Mayor’s award twenty years running, at which point the town council suspended the competition as pointless. Laurel was unsteady on his feet and was always guessing about his steps. Culpeper’s sold anise drops with a high alcohol content. A quart of it was 29 cents cheaper than a fifth of Happy Sally. Laurel had an extensive record collection we’re told. Mostly numbers by John Stablebell.

On the next step up, Bartholomew tripped over the second Magnitude file, and this photo fell out. Apparently the large number of photographs of that horse was owing to her penchant for amusing facial expressions.

Are we forgetting the animal husbandry partnership of KD, with Maddox ? KD
had issues with critters, it is well known. But he just could not stay away, and
chose to impart his skills on the theoretical side, which Cuthbert implemented.
Magnitude, although retaining much of the equine genetics of his mare, was sired
by the ant eater up at the farm on the Upper Terrace, whose name escapes me
at the moment. The snow keeps falling and I will have to leave it at that for the
moment.

Burger, thanks for that insight. I think the anteater’s name was just “Excapesmee”. Seems anthills were sparse and far apart in the sage on the Upper Terrace. Maddox couldn’t afford more than four strands of bobwire on his spread, that and small signs forty rods apart reading “FENCE - do not cross” which was adequate to contain most of his stock. The anteater just laughed at this of course and went wherever he pleased. Not long after his arrival on the Maddox ranch, carpenter ants began building condominiums out of masonry. No doubt evolution in action. Magnitude was Excapesmee’s only known get. Lack of results and the years required for serious breeding programs left KD disenchanted with such experimentation. He was more in tune with immediate results from mechanical adjustments and innovation. Besides, his allergies had really flared up after the big windstorm.

We mustn't forget the proximity of the ant hills to the vanadium veins deep in the Valley. While it gave the ants more incentive it also let the lemon juice permeate the alloy. Even Henry Ford saw this as a problem.

How much the headlines I read today remind me of similar problems in the TripleBergs. Do you remember when Quinten Spaydaford was suspended for stealing baseball signs at VanBriggle Stadium? When will we ever learn?

How true, Rich. It seems the whole Spaydaford family was at odds with society at one time or another. Skippy appeared to be the only responsible member until the debacle that ended his custard stand venture. Were the Spaydafords all psychopaths, or were they just misunderstood ? Sociologists often debate the question.

At any rate, Quinten’s defense for absconding with the baseball signs was that he was a devotee of Squamish in all its forms, and he was appalled to see the younger generation attracted to the game of baseball. He simply wished to support local traditions and values. Although the Uvula League seemed to agree with this sentiment (they had launched a campaign under the banner “Make the Tri-burgs Great Big Some More”) they disapproved of Quinten’s theft of the signs, and recommended his suspension. Misunderstanding the directive, angry baseball fans suspended him from a nearby cottonwood. Some remedies are irremedial.

In my hurry to get out the door this morning, I did not eleborate on Kalamity Dick's
theorizing and calculations, in regards to the breeding program that Maddox took to
the barn. But Magnitude was able to knock a fly off a leaf with that tongue from two
feet away.

Every town has their melancholy and malcontents. Seems the Spadafords were that
bunch for Calhoun County. Diagnosis and declaration that all the Spad-fambly were
psychopaths is a tad above my pay grade, but I would not let them babysit my adult
children or wash my car. Nuff said. We can debate their life choices and motivations,
but the bottom line is that they were and are just plain dangerous to have around.

Dallas, thank you for your kind words of appreciation for our research staff. Positive reenforcement is valuable to them, especially since their hourly wage rate has been frozen since 1912 at twelve cents per hour. Something to do with complying with the Klamitbofer Endowment in Perpetuity.

It is hard to imagine anything in Perpetuity. Not long after the first claims were filed on Blisterbug Creek which led to the rich alphabet mines in Calhoun County, a promising vein of diacritical marks was discovered far upstream near the headwaters. Boomers rushed to the scene, and soon the mining camp of Perpetuity was established. At its peak the community boasted five saloons, two hotels, a butcher shop, general store, a blacksmith and a population of two thousand. Within a year, the vein played out when low grade ore began yielding nothing but tildas. No buildings remain at the old townsite any more. You have to imagine the whole thing.

I imagined The Whole Thing once. I gotta say, I felt a lot better for it.

Now that I think about it, it was during my own time, going through perpetuity
that it happened, ... at least the first time.

The road to Perpetuity was always a popular route for locals and tourists
alike. Keeping it clear was the reason for building the Snomoto, and it never
failed to get the job done.

Possibly Mortimer Kipling in the chauffeur driven Packard. Mortimer had a numeral claim in the next valley over. He sold the prang tangents from the 6s, 8s and 9s to the Helix mill folks. Kd fabricated numbers rackets for him and the two often spent time tossing horseshoes behind the Emerald Bank just south of Blisterbug Creek.
Tourists still can pan for 7s at Blisterbug Creek for a small fee.
You may recall Mortimer's second wife recorded "Bye Bye Mockingjay" for RCA.
A "privy" from the original town site of Perpetuity still stands and is on the "Register of Hysterical Sight"s. It was often called the County Seat.

It was indeed Kipling in the Packard. The reason for the photo, which appeared as
the cover on his 3rd album, was the event that set off his later life career as a
motivational speaker. If you note the tire tracks and review his 1915 interview with
Hans Brückner, for Do It Again, Weekly, the chauffeur had driven through the bowed
and snow-covered tree, filling the car with snow and covering the riders with the
stuff as well. Kipling got the notion of fixing a problem in his head, and soon his
famous lecture series on Taking Corrective Action was a Tri-Burg best seller on both
wax tube recordings and live events. The capturing of the event was by freak chance,
that the preliminary test crew for the filming of Burr in my Britches happened to be
right there to get it all on film.
Kipling employed baseball pitching techniques to his horseshoe game, which frustrated
friend KD to no end, until he shared the secret and their games were elevated to semi-
pro level. Both of them had gone through perpetuity together.

When the librarian asked the fellow if he liked Kipling he answered " I don't know, how do you Kipple?" I suppose it was the same for Mortimer.
Several of the wax tubes are stored at the institute and some still are filled with the sweet, colorful syrup.

Question now, is this the same ‘05 Packard without the windshield ? There couldn’t have been many in Calhoun County at the time. In fact, many Tri-burg residents claimed to have seen their first “horseless carriage” as late as 1938. Sebastian found this photo in the file marked “Mort” - rather a confusing note. On back of the photograph is a pencilled note “Delight Kipple driving her new Packard. 11/3/05”. Who knew ??

Through the clever reversal of names, Delight Kipple maintained anonymity and
social position, while performing in the burlesque halls across the Tri-Burg area as
"Kipple Delight". Starring in Debbie Does the Dishes in 1905 brought her to national
attention for her prowess with domestic chores. The theme was continued as a serial
story of doing good against adversity through the doing of mundane domestic tasks for
over 20 years, and its popularlty never waned. One such example was Clean Sweep, an
action thriller set in 1916 Saddlestring, loosely based on the then-current Nutmeg Incident.
Her career is well documented in all sixteen venues.

Through her benevolent gifting to the Institute, we all owe a debt of gratitude for
what is there for us today.

Interestingly, when the tastes of the patrons frequenting Ernie’s Saloon demanded a change from the two staple choices, whisky straight up or beer, faddish cocktails with fancy names like “Old Fashioned” , “Thomas & Jeremiah”, “Brandy Alexander”, “Cuba Libre” and such like became ragingly popular. Some say it was the Volsted Act that brought it about. Any road, not to be left behind by changing trends, Ernie concocted what became the drink most often asked for; a combination of Happy Sally, prune vermouth and eleven different herbs and spices. He named his mixological triumph “Tipple Delight”. There may be a connection ? Although Ernie never ventured into providing burlesque entertainments, it was rumored there may have been “naughty dancing” going on in the back room on the occasions when Duke Fitzellwitz and his Dyslexic Troubadors were in town.

"Flaming Aardvark" and "Crouching Switchman" were two other favorites.
I won't vouch for Ernie's but Durward's Tavern in Lavern had fan dancers for three seasons. Both 2 blade and 4 blade as rumor has it. Things got real dirty when they were forced underground. We don't like to talk about it.
Heinrich had pictures on the wall of them but the superintendent forced him to remove them. Then the superintendent's wife made him take them down. There is very little tolerance for that around the Tri-Bergs. Maybe .002 or less.

What a touching story Herb. And on this great day when we celebrate our diversity. The Tri-Berg area was so welcoming to folks from other backgrounds. Many Pythagoreans immigrated from persecution and hateful treatment. As it turned out their natural periodicity was an incredible asset at the curling tables of the Helix mill.
The world could learn a lot from the attitudes and warmhearted nature of these folks of this splendiferous valley.
Peace be with you.

The other thing that comes to mind from Herb's story is the difficult time KD had explaining what the Moon Gear does in the planetary transmission. We often struggle trying to understand the simplest concepts and overcome our common sense.

Re-reading through the back pages of this account, I see that KD was wont to rebuild and reassemble Model T transmissions in his sleep. However, this was only when the waxing Gibbous moon was at 52% or greater. Otherwise, the position of the moon gear would be out of phase. It’s well known that KD never talked in his sleep, which accounts for his inability to explain its function.

Yes Herb they do but its called the new goat ropers festival now. All the old goat ropers retired one way or another. Not the fun it used to be with the goats wearing helmets and knee pads. The ropes are velvet and only rated for 15 lbs as to not injure the goats. Many trophies are given each year as everyone is a winner now! Oh and the other goat roper festival we cant talk about!

Those were dark times. Am I correct in thinking this photo was taken at Ernie's II, up
in Silver Plume ? The back bar looks very similar.

Heinrich and I can't be sure of the who or where on the photo. Neither the ozon0meter or the osmosis counter yielded anything definitive. Of course Skippy wouldn't tell on pain of being hog-tied.
It is clear that the Goat is Vincent Van....
what time period did Skippy carry the blue leather handbag. That might narrow it down.

Blue periods were unique to that short-lived vein of diacritical marks in Perpetuity. Since they were actually punctuation marks, the miners screened the richer ores at the stamp mill and discarded them. Local children used them for marbles.

She would certainly be embarrassed if she knew I still had this yearbook photo of her but I don't believe she has read the Forum since the naked piano player sidecar photo.

She always brought ginger snaps for Birthdays and had us sing "Bye Bye, Blackbird".
At 136 years old she transferred to Boulder Flats.

Well Perry, having not attended myself I can only speculate. There was a “Ginger Crunch” the last week in May after the Regatta for four weeks and a Salmonella Ginger the following year. You may be thinking of Betty Lou Raspberry or Philanthropy. They both had the amber bangs. Taffy followed one of them for two and a half weeks. She left early with a head cold. Kind of cute I thought. Cranberry Jill replaced her followed by Happy Sally (real name Florence) and then Tailor after the St. Swithin’s Day break.
Several returned for the next season as well as Cherimoya who accused Ernie of trying to molest her after she slipped in the caramel syrup. Fortunately there were several witnesses still awake and he was cleared of that charge. It’s a good thing as he might have been sent to the big house after all the other caramel incidents.
September started off with Avocado Alice, then Happy Sally (real name Edina). It seems like there was a Hupmobile Sally too but like I said I didn’t spend much time there. Hardly any at all really.
Back in Kalamity Dick’s day they had a live band and put in bleachers. Not like the jukebox and folding chairs.
Why do you ask?

By the way, there was a Happy Florence (real name Sally) at “Chubbies” in Fischbein during the 50s. :o

My oh my... my oh my! I think something is not Kosher with your memory on attendance seeing that you can name every girl who graced the brass pole at Ernie's The only reason I was there was to get them to come with me to the prayer meeting. I did notice your picture on the wall with all the girls, you know the wall that was known as the wall of shame. All that hugging and kissing going on!

Perry, I hope you aren’t making an unseemly insinuendo regarding Rich E.’s account of the performers who graced the stage at Ernie’s. Bartholomew delivered six volumes of ledgers from Ernie’s Saloon to him last week for re-cataloguing. The performers’ contracts were all there along with the lease agreement for the brass pole. The Medicine Bow firehouse was a one storey building but city fathers were looking ahead when they purchased the pole. The pole was leased to Ernie for a dollar per year until such time as an upper storey would be added on, at which time Ernie would have to give it back. That never happened. In fact, the one storey firehouse burned down one night. It was never rebuilt as that was the only fire to have ever occurred in Medicine Bow.

Rich, ... that isn't exactly true ....

Local lore says one Simon Weisenschutzel went through Medicine Bow at a bit of
a quick trot and was stopped by Shurf Nigglebacher. Shurf Nigglebacher, none-too
amused by this breach of public safety asked the offending Weisenschutzel "Where's
the fire ?"

Weisenschutzel, feeling a tad glib from a tip or two of the Happy Sally flask, replied
"In your eyes, Officer". Shurf Nigglebacher was pushed deeper into unamusement and
promptly escorted Weisenschutzel downtown where a summary judgement was issued
and he was made to pay the one-dollar fine.

The only reference I can find to pole dancers in the Tri-Burg area was when they were finishing off the first telephone line in the area.
What a great day for technology! If you wanted to see if there was a table at Ernie's you could call across the street and find out without having to go there and be disappointed.

In fact as the photo shows, the 1st portable phone system was started there. As you can see, the poles were mounted to vehicles. Maybe that is the confusion about the location of the pole. It wasnt long before the cost of people to drive the poles every time a call was made got too expensive to support the system. We would have to wait many years for portable phones again. On a side note the T was cheap at Earnies!

Right you are Herb. A slight misunderstanding about the brass pole in Ernie’s. It was installed as a foot rail at the bar. The comment about “. . . the dancers who graced the brass pole . . .” is a bit misleading. Them gals could put away the suds or knock off double shots with the best of them.

The mobile phone pole was indeed an amusing miscalculation in how to advance

Curiously, the highest technology to come out of the short lived Tri-burg mobile phone service was the wire de-tangler KD developed. Using the reels from several reel-type lawnmowers, KD’s ingenious device was run from a PTO installed on the Chesbromobile. Phone service was discontinued daily at 10:00pm, the wires untangled, and service resumed by 9:00 am the following morning. The only drawback to KD’s wire de-tangler was the limited number of times eight-inch lengths of telephone wire could be re-spliced. A personal note, KD was more interested in yodeling and Alpenhorns for long distance communication.

For both business and pleasure, yodeling remains the primary means of communication
all across the Tri-Burg area today. Noted for impeccable reliability and total area coverage,
yodeling gets the job done where celullar service often fails.

Philbert Larkvonnet always said "Yodeling is it's own reward". His cousin Kenny saw it as a way to make a fortune. Practicing while de-tangling for Cliffwillow-Edison and using it at the dispatchers shack his technique got good enough to join the Boulder Flats chorus. They toured the entire continent for 7 years and finally got real jobs.

The attached photo has nothing to do with either Yodeling or Kenny but don't you think it's the same hat?

It appears to be "Smiley" the 8th dwarf from the earlier version. The "Wicked Queen", played by Frau Blucker herself, conjured up a poisoned artichoke but Huntley, the Butler, ate it by mistake. That was not in the script but an accident behind the scenes. Bob Frapplez was replaced by a much shorter Butler and the Queen had to talk down to him. From then on things returned to normal except for "Dopey" 's yodeling out of context during the margins.
I think we've all been there before.

The original screen play for “The Wicked Queen” called for ten dwarves, including Smiley, Stinkey and Itchey. The latter two were written out early on for obvious reasons. Smiley left the cast to run for governor. It’s unclear why Dopey wasn’t also dropped, given the less than positive aspect of his character, but producer Sisal B. Demarest was rumored to be superstitious. After all, seven is a good round number.

Not to be confused with Nasty, Vile, Ugly, Disgusting, Smelly, Miserable, Irritating, Loathsome, Repugnant, Unsavory, Frightful, Hideous, Putrid and Dangerous from “Regina White and the 14 Trolls” (UnderBridge Studios 1933). Neil Hartley played both Frightful and Grumpy (third season previously mentioned).

Apologies if our loyal readership fears some discussions are veering too far from our main purpose, i.e., documenting the life and times of Kalamity Dick. The note on the kiwi is apropos. KD was a keen observer of wildlife, and noted to Prof. Woonsoggle on many occasions the coincidence of the annual skunk migration with Groundhog Day. The kiwi spent the night under our box car, where our resident family of skunks reside. They were all out before sunrise taking the air.

It is often the followers here that keep things "On Track". Throgmorton pointed out that all three of the previously mentioned "Talkies" were based on books that Kalamity Dick read to the nephews at bedtime. Dick also provided backdrops for a dozen or more scenes in UnderBridge Studio productions. All that and traveling up Canyon Road to keep Smazie Danicles Pragmagnicator tuned up. (Some may remember him as "Loathsome". Others "Smelly" {character names, not dispositions}).
P.S. [Thanks to Hank from the punctuation shed for use of the brackets].
It seems no matter how far we stray the situation always remembers it's encounter.

Of the 37 people asked, 36 feel that you gents need to bring this subject
matter back around to some level of relevancy.

My apologies to all.
When we last left our friends, Kalamity and Cuthbert, They had just finished a lean portion of squirrel cooked over the campfire. Cuthbert asked “Do you remember the old green dress Mrs. Florsheim used to wear on Tuesdays?”
“I thought it was Thursday's she wore the green one. Tuesdays was the red velvet paisley” Dick offered. “Have some more squirrel.”
“You may be right Dick.” Cuthbert conceded while spooning up more dinner. “Did you hear about Melvin’s Big Buick jumping the mounds at the Adverb Quarry last Friday?”
“No I didn’t. He was talking about it a lot at choir practice, but you know how he talks.” Dick laid out the bedroll and took his liniment.
“Well, we sure caught a mess of Jabberjaws didn’t we?”
“Ya, nearly 30 wasn’t it?”
“Oh No! More like 40 if you count the little one.”
“I think you’re all wet, KD….Well good night”
“Good night. See ya in the morning if the sun comes up”
“OK[“

“I guess I better take off my hat”
“OK………”
When did I do that?

It was a familiar axiom all across the Tri-Burg area that the wheels on the bus
go round and round. And it all began in the gear drive bowels of the Vestibule
factory that powered both the Schrimpf Mill and the Upper Terrace. Although
skilled machinists and forge men made the parts and bolted them together, the
genesis of it all was a bar napkin at Ernie's and the eccentric genius of Kalamity
Dick.

It truly is a wonder.
