Do You Want To Meet The 1904 Model B Owner At Bakersfield Swap Meet ?

Post by FreighTer Jim » Thu Jan 30, 2020 10:10 am

I am trying to get Wayland to attend the Bakersfield Swap meet in April.

Some folks think he passed away.

Wayland owns the 1904 Model B.

He is one of The Last Of The Mohicans.

Please post on this thread to encourage him.

It would be wonderful to have an opportunity to meet him! I have met Kim D a few times at Bakersfield and a few other meets in Califunny over the years. It would also be nice if the model B could be there to be seen and appreciated as well.

KD might have the Model B together by then.

I am hopeful - but he has so much on his plate.

Wayland is a vast treasure of knowledge & I am anticipating he will come to Bakersfield Swap.

It would be really nice if he was encouraged.

I had the privilege of working on some parts of this historic car. I would live to see it there and meet the man who has made it happen. It’s the oldest four cylinder Ford running.

OK I have no idea who this guy is. Never met him. But I will say this being new to Model T's and trying to learn. You old guys have no idea how important you are. The vast knowledge and more important, experience that you bring to the hobby is invaluable. The stories that are written in the magazines, the banter on the WEB, all contribute to the betterment of the hobby. It's not only with Model T's. I can't tell you how many times I read Steve Jelf's "Letter to a fat kid" on his blog. That was a big part of pushing me over the edge to loose over 60 pounds.
I unfortunately can't attend the event but it would be great just to sit and have a cup of coffee and hear stories. So please go Wayland you just may be the spark that someone needs to push them over the edge and start getting into the hobby. All you young guy get out there and talk, absorb, learn. Soon they will all be gone and all we will have left is you to carry on. Help keep these machines on the road and out of a museum.

Before The Interweb

Before going online - living knowledge was shared between friends.

Wayland knew Larry Porter - stayed at his house.

He was good friends with Cecil Ralston.

That is where he bought The Model B from.

As time passes - these Living Legends pass too and most of the time they take invaluable information with them.

In my travels I have started videoing folks so some bits & pieces can hopefully be saved for Posterity.
