1919-1927 Completely Rebuilt Ford Model T Generators With 90 day warranty!

Post by AdminJeff » Thu Dec 26, 2019 3:50 pm

I have 4 (so far) Professionally Rebuilt Ford Model T generators. Fits 1919-1927 cars including TT. These are WAY more fun to rebuild than the ones on Porsche 911's, and I've done many!

$250 exchange shipping INCLUDED anywhere in the USA.90 day, unconditional warranty ALSO included.

PROCESS USED ON ALL REBUILT GENERATORS:
Completely Disassemble & clean
Remove all old wires and disintegrated wrapping on field coils and carefully clean them.
Separate the individual coils. Rewrap each field coil with superior Scotch brand Glass Cloth Electrical tape.
Power up and Check each coil w/ Magnometer for maximum field strength AND polarity
Replace terminal post insulator, washer & post wire, and polish terminal post nuts and bolt or replace as needed.
Reassemble/solder field coils with new post wires, insulators and new terminals.
Clean and rebuild brush holder plate. Replace with new insulators on 3rd brush.
Tap all holes in brush plate with 10-32 thread-chasing tap.
Replace all screws and lock washers.
Replace brush holder screws with new BRASS screws and new zinc coated split washers.
Install new brushes in brush plate.
Pre-Test Armature on growler and check on lathe for straightness on both front and rear shafts.
Clean armature and take off ~10 thou on commutator surface or as needed for perfect brush contact on South Bend Lathe.
Mica undercut commutator ~20 thou.
Commutator final polished with 1500 polishing paper.
Polish & Fit front and back shafts for new sealed ball bearings.
Re-Test Armature on growler for shorts after cleanup.
Paint inside of all exposed surfaces with gloss black enamel
Fit armature into field coils for final clearance as needed.
Check end play of assembled unit.

NOTE: ALL 10-32 and 6-32 screws and split washers in all locations replaced with zinc coated decorative flat-head screws just like were on the unit when new. Brush Terminal screws replaced w/ brass for better conductivity.

RUN-IN TESTING & ADJUSTMENT
Set brush holder plate for neutral/slight positive rotation with +6V.
Set charge rate to 7A. **see note below
Bench test/run in for 30 min at 1700 rpm.
Painted inside and out with gloss black enamel.

Contact me if you want a good generator drive gear pre-installed for you with a new pin) for an additional $10 (while I have them)

Solidly packed in bubble wrap and ship!

**NOTE: Adjustments assume the original Ford Cut-out is used. Final fine-adjustment of 3rd brush (charge rate) may be necessary once you get it depending on your car and accessories and is very easy to do. 5A to 7A seems to work for most applications, esp for touring when the car is driven longer distances. If you only drive short distances, 10A might be better in that case to keep the battery fully charged and this is easily changed by moving the 3rd brush once installed in the car. Fun Projects Voltage regulators require different charge rates but can be easily set when this generator is installed in the car using the instructions that come with the regulator. These voltage regulators are very worthwhile upgrades.

The Rear Oiler is not used as these generators use permanently sealed bearings.

These come with a 90 day unconditional warranty included (which starts when you get it).

All my rebuilt generators are now spoken for. If you have one that needs to be rebuilt per the same specs above, send me a note and we can work something out. I can now turn these out in less than a week.

I do! I now have all the tooling to do both now. And I can also do 12v conversations. I also replace the worn out Babbitt bearing in the starter snout with a bronze bushing on the starters and use the same meticulous rebuild method on the starters as I use on the generators. There's just a lot more work on starters because of the snout rehab.

I have one rebuilt generator left and dozen more of each on my shelf ready to be rebuilt and can turn them around in about a week. The starters are a ton of work to do right, and most of them need new field coils as rewrapping isn't normally an option. The generators not so much.

Exchange prices
Generator: $250 (assumes rewrapped field coils)
Starter: $350 (assumes new field coils)

Outright purchase (no exchange, no core required)
Starter: $390
Generator: $290

I'm also interested in the 12 volt conversions. I assume you mean 12 volt starters.??

I'm getting ready to put a starter in the speedster project. A 12 volt starters would be great.
