Roger Barrett 1934-2020.

Post by Erik Barrett » Mon Feb 24, 2020 7:30 pm

Yesterday my mentor, teacher, role model, best friend, and father passed away at 85 years old. He taught me how to be a man, to love others as myself, how to work on the old machinery for which we shared a passion, and about God’s grace so abundant in our lives. He taught me how to drive a model T and to help others with their own beloved tin lizzies. The world is a lesser place without him but also a better place for his having been here. RIP dad.

Erik, So very sorry for your loss. I know you and your Dad were close. Just try to do things that made a smile on your Dad's face, helps in the grieving process. I went though this when I lost my Mom, Brother, and almost Dad in a car wreak in 1989.

I am very grateful that I still have Dad at 88 years young, but know old man time is coming. I do not know how I will handle it.

With Sincere Sympathy,

Hank and Family

Erik,
Thanks for posting your kind words and memories. I met Roger when I was at your shop. If remember correctly he was using silicon to prepare for Babbitt.

May God grant you, your family and friends joy, hope and peace.

I can’t say enough how good of a Son you are to your Father.

I have watched you with your Dad at Bakersfield Swap Meet.

Last Summer you took your vacation time to honor him.

The Best Gift 🎁 Is Love and your Father had plenty from you Erik.

I envy your place, as you describe the Dad you had. And it makes me happy
to hear about it. Many have not been so fortunate. I hope he went without
much pain and those who loved him find gratitude and celebration, rather than
pain in loss.
More people are doing it today than ever before !

I just opened this up for the first time in hours, and saw the thread title.
It saddened me instantly. You had one of the best father-son relationships I have ever known. Be well soon.

Erik,
I'm so glad I got to know and spend quality time with both you and your dad, Mister B. His knowledge and passion for all things mechanical was infectious as was his willingness to pass that knowledge on to everyone - you certainly inherited those wonderful genes. May he Rest In Peace.

Erik,
May the joy of memories made and shared with your Dad surpass the sadness of such a great loss come sooner rather than later. For each of us this time will be different and the emotional rollercoaster works too well so be kind to yourself as it takes you up and down on the road ahead.
God bless,
Dom

Our hearts all go out to you, Erik. Having lost my Dad thirty plus years ago, I can tell you that your pain seems so terrible now, but it will mellow and change.

There's not a day gone by that I haven't thought of my Dad, but I have evolved to an acceptable spot. I know that he still exists, in my heart and in my memory. I also know that a large part of him lives on in me.

Sometimes I feel like he's standing right behind me, looking over my shoulder. When a project comes out just right, I can feel him smiling. Not at me, but smiling with me. When something I'm doing turns to crap, I can feel him digging in, resolved to try harder and get it right next time.

I sincerely hope that you soon find just the right place for your Dad just as I have.

Dick Fischer and family

Erik, so sorry to hear about your father. I wanted to say how much I appreciated all of the help both of you have given me. His expertise on bringing an old coil back to life was a joy to watch. I've only known you for a couple years, but in that time it's been the experience of a lifetime. If there is anything do to help , please let me know.

Thanks everyone. Dad was in L.A. when the MTFCA was started. He was a member of the International club and retained that membership but embraced the new club and its different attitude centered on touring and fellowship rather than showing brass era cars. He knew all the founding members. Not only did he know Bruce McCauley but he worked for McCauley’s father at Pacific Bell. He told me stories of seeing Bruce, Don Pendock, John McInnes, Ben Yumori, Chris Egsgaard, and others whose names now escape me working on model T’s in those days. My brother and I now are the stewards of dad’s 1926 roadster pickup he owned since 1959.
