Re: Virtual Model T Tour
Sorry for that Dallas. The biker at left was from Michigan and said he uses his vacation each year to ride out and over Beartooth. He said it replaced Scenic highway 1 for him.
The clouds looked a little ominous didn't they? When did I do that?

Re: Virtual Model T Tour
Tom Bauer from Taylor Mill, KY., sent me a nice note in reference to a photo previously posted by Dallas:
Tom had a very similar experience when on a Covered Bridge Tour, when he encountered a tree that had fallen across the roadway. It was remarkable to him since he had traveled the route the day before and the road was clear. Tom shared with me a photo of his experience, but didn't post it here because he wasn't satisfied with the resolution of the photo. The two photos remind me of the Hagerty Insurance motto: "Shift Happens", so I will post Tom's photo for him:
Digressing just a bit, Tom's photo reminds me of a fallen tree experience of my own:
The insurance settlement did provide the down payment for my new garage. Fortunately, my 1966 Imperial was undamaged by the incident. "Shift Happens!"

Wayne, there had been a storm a few days before out trip. There were pleanty of down trees and limbs. We had to leave the road several times to get around them. It added more fun going off road and fording through.
This was one such place.-

A different kind of bridge today.
The Fourteenth Avenue bridge in Winfield was built in the twenties and replaced by a boring modern one a couple of years ago. I still shoot on film occasionally, and took this photo shortly before the bridge was closed.

Re: Virtual Model T Tour
Well I worked on the 27 Tudor that is in the shop most of the day. Such a nice day, I needed some seat time. The wife was not interested in going so I called someone who cant refuse a ride. The grandkids!!!
I had too many for main roads so I snuck out of town and went to a friends farm.
Probably 3 miles of roads on his farm and the kids had a blast watching the deer, ducks, beefalo, horses ,cattle and other wildlife. T high and Muncie low was just the right speed for these roads.
Got the kids out of the house, mom was happy, grampa was happy and their smiles told me they were happy.-

I really enjoyed touring Prince Edward Island. Everything was in bloom during our visit. One of our tour stops was a train museum:
I don't know what color they were originally, but lately I notice that many of the restored rural train depots seem to have this same color combination:

Re: Virtual Model T Tour
Touring out in the country is like that.
These are my only Bridge photos. The second photo is the Hardy Bridge which was featured in the 1987 film The Untouchables, starring Kevin Costner and Sean Connery; it served as a U.S.-Canada border crossing. It crosses the Missouri River and is located at milepost 6 on Old U.S. Route 91 southwest of Great Falls, MT. It was part of the International car Tour a dozen years or so ago.

Re: Virtual Model T Tour
My tour today is just a quarter mile up the road. My great grandfather Elisha Parker homesteaded here in 1869. In 1874 he sold 80 acres to John P. Leach, who then sold an acre for a school. Though Leach provided the land, it was called Parker School. Prairie View Cemetery, directly across the road from the school, soon came to be known as Parker Cemetery. It's very popular. People are dying to get in.

Today for a change of pace, perhaps you will enjoy a "tour" of Scott Frush's 1924 touring. Scott is from Guilderland, NY, and his Model T is one I think we would all be proud to call our own.
One of the first things I noticed about Scott's T was the wonderful patch panels on the splash apron: I also appreciate his period suitcase and luggage rack:

Sometimes it is hard to find your car in the parking lot:
Here is one owner's solution:
The color may not be how Henry did it, but maybe Henry got it wrong.
I also like his suitcase, it strikes a good balance between being period correct, without being decrepit:

Re: Virtual Model T Tour
I haven't been on many tours with my Model T, so I am running low on material. A few years back the local chapter of the Model T club had a display at the Illinois Railroad Museum in Union, Illinois. I took this picture of the Model T club display, out of the window of a train car pulled by a steam locomotive. If you look closely, you can see my 1955 Plymouth Club Sedan, parked between a Thunderbird and a Center Door Sedan.

For Sunday, here is a special log church:
When it was built in 1806, Thomas Jefferson was president. The church was built by early settlers of Schellsburg, PA., on land donated by town founder John Schell.
The cemetery surrounding the church is the resting place of over 4300 people, including 8 veterans of the Revolutionary War.
Here is a post card of the church from the early days of the Lincoln Highway:

Re: Virtual Model T Tour
The church has two balconies that run on each of the long sides of the church. Dallas, you may be referring to the rafter ends of the left balcony. The ends of the main beams of the balcony can be seen on the front and back side (short sides) of the church. To me there is something very elegant about the simplicity and craftsmanship of this church.

I think you are right. I missed that fact. I enjoy these log building. I have restored a couple of them. The craftsmanship is amazing. The work done with hand tools had to be back breaking.

Ron: Wyoming, Idaho, or Washington?
My tour stop today is a stop for sure. Part of Road 360 in Greenwood County has been washed away by a recent flood. The detour goes down the bank to the left, fords the creek, and back up to the road. Fortunately the water is down to normal.

For anyone curious about the question Steve Jelf asked Kent Sumner about "what kind of tree is that?'
There are one million, three hundred and sixty seven thousand, four hundred and sixteen Burr Oak trees in Wisconsin.
There used to be one in Kansas,.....but it died!

Actually there are some in my yard. My uncle Clarence and aunt Mickey brought a little one home from a visit to her folks at McCune. Now it's over ninety years old and huge, and several others have grown from its acorns. But we don't have the climate to make them that colorful.
Late twenties. They brought a bur oak.

Well,....O.K.,....so maybe there were TWO in Kansas but one died!
Just kidding Steve,....as I know you realized. As one of my all-time favorite comedians ("Geraldine".....Flip Wilson) used to say,...."da' debble made me do it"!
As you always say Steve,...(....and I'll have you know, I've adopted this as one of my favorite quotes) "when you get old enough, everything someone says reminds you of something". You're "question" to Kent Sumner and that photo of that beautiful Oak tree reminds me that the very first thing I learned as a Boy Scout at scout camp in Wisconsin in the '50's (studying for my Forestry Merit Badge at Camp Shin-Go-Beek near Wild Rose) was how to identify the different species of oak trees. As deficient as I am in knowledge about most things to do with nature, believe it or not, I can still identify and distinguish between Black Oak, White Oak, Red Oak, Pin Oak, and Burr Oak! Especially Pin Oak, which has the same basic shape leaf as the black, white, and red oak,....except that the Pin Oak leaf is a much "finer" and almost delicate shape, and the Burr Oak which has a larger and almost more "massive" shape leaf as all the other oaks.
Anyway,.....who cares? Right? Like I said,...this "stay at home thing is get'n to me!
Sorry for the "thread drift",,,,so,.....back to the tour,......harold

Re: Virtual Model T Tour
First, many thanks to Wayne for starting this thread, and for posting the picture he took on the MTFCI tour in Canada last year. Wayne was one of my passengers, it was a great tour, and I enjoyed the company.
I can cull my stash for a lot of pictures of my and others' Model Ts and earlier Fords on various tours in prior years. I'll start with five taken on a BBC tour a few years ago. This is a Horseless Carriage Club (pre-1916) four-day tour in Pennsylvania; it started out Brass in Bucks County, migrated to Brass in Berks County (same initials) and then to Lancaster County (now BBC just means Beautiful Brass Cars). My car at the time was the '13 runabout that Rich Bingham is now driving in Idaho.
The touring car is Peter Jakab's. The buggies are Amish; this is a typical scene if you tour in Lancaster County. The third picture was an ice cream stop way out in the boonies on a dirt road; the tour director had brought in a classic Good Humor truck. My T is in the foreground. The other car is a 1910 E-M-F that I owned 50 years ago. The last two pictures, in reverse order, are my car approaching a paved low-water crossing, and driving across it.

Re: Virtual Model T Tour
While I am still in Wisconsin, how about a short detour, for a little maintenance, at a period Ford Garage?
In the late 90's my parents moved to Coloma, WI, a town of about 400 people, located between Portage and Plover, WI. One day, while on a walk, I came across this sign, on the side of one of the buildings in town:
It looks like the sign had been painted over, but the paint had subsequently worn off, revealing "Ford Garage" in large letters. There is also the "ghost" of another sign, with a smiling face: I didn't grow up in Coloma, so I don't know the history of the building, but it appears that at one time it was a Ford Garage. I know we have posters on the forum from the general area of Coloma, so perhaps one of them has the answer. Here are some more photos of the building: As a footnote, when Mom gave up the house in Coloma, I was able to sell it through an advertisement in Hemmings Motor News. So (in more ways than one) I have gotten a lot of mileage from this hobby.

Since it is Sunday, I will add some lupines. These flowers grow wild along the roadsides on Prince Edward Island. They make quite an impact:

More flowers. My tour stop today is with the sunflowers along US 69 in northern Missouri. A US highway that parallels an interstate is often perfect for Model T driving. For much of the way here it was just an occasional Amish buggy and me.

Another bridge on the way to Sun Valley, ID. The previous year we took a photo that got on the VF cover (Nov/Dec 2016).
When did I do that?

Re: Virtual Model T Tour
I was able to gather a nice bunch of club members for a 2 hr. Sunday drive, not bad since I sent the text out Saturday! We had spectacular weather finally. I will apologize right now as I'm positive no matter what I do my pics will be sideways!! One will be Jim Riedy and his faithful passenger, Champ. Other one is the whole group just prior to taking off, and of course my '13, Clarabelle, along side Doug and Diane Galloway's '16, after a brief rest stop. So nice to be out again as a group. Our club loves to tour.
Edit: Yay!...just previed...this time they worked!!

Re: Virtual Model T Tour
In about '64 or so when I was about 14, I had an Aunt that lived in the Detroit area. She knew a family that had an "old Ford" out in the country away from the city, she knew I liked "T"s and she took me out there. They were just a low income family that had inherited this car and it was in an open shed, but pretty much protected from the elements. She took me out there to see it when we were visiting from MO. It was in VERY nice original condition with a lot of original paint, etc., but it wasn't a Model T so I wasn't all that interested in it. I had no idea of the significance of it at the time, hey, I was just a dumb kid just starting to get involved with these old "junkers", as most all of my family regarded them. They had all lived through the Depression and just didn't understand my obsession with this old "junk". I'm sure it was an NRS, I've kicked myself many times in the last 50+ years for not taking more interest in it or taking pictures, heck, I didn't even have a camera at the time. I have always wondered what happened to it, it for sure was a piece of history that I will always wonder about. Just one of many other mysteries of cars that my old Friend of 53 years and I were involved with over the years. Dave

I haven't been on that many Model T tours, but one thing I learned pretty quickly is, once it gets to 3-3:30 in the afternoon, start looking for:

Re: Virtual Model T Tour
Several years ago I took my '13 on a week-long Snappers tour. It was a progressive tour. We started in Kalamazoo and went up the eastern side of Lake Michigan, returning inland from the lake. While there are always some Ts on a Snappers tour, many of those guys favor VERY large cars.

Possibly the biggest annual purely-T tour is the Mainely T. I've done it once. Here are a few pics.

Susan Yeager had never even seen a lobstah, let alone eaten one. She came to the final banquet with Jay Klefoth; I think she learned quite quickly!

Re: Virtual Model T Tour
Today I'm on the road in my home county, headed east to Cedarvale, Hewins, Baxter Springs, and points beyond. This road used to be US 166 when the highway numbering system was introduced in the twenties. Now 166 is a modern road a mile or two north of here.

Re: Virtual Model T Tour
Today were are riding in the back seat of Joe's & Linda's 1926 touring. "Castle Rock" is one of those old time tourist attractions that were popular before the interstate system. We are outside of St. Ignace, MI, on the old highway:
Naturally, being tourists, we had to stop and check it out:
They told us how many steps it took to reach the top, and if I hadn't lost my memory I would tell you, but it is a lot of steps! Here is the view from the top: Here is our happy group, I am the one behind the camera:

Great photo, Rich. The reflection in the mirror makes it.
My tour today is a short one, a quarter mile up the road to visit my great grandfather and the other old timers.

Re: Virtual Model T Tour
One of my favorite Model T events is the breakfast run the Midwest Chapter of MTFCI has each June in honor of John & Irene Stynoski. Due to the times, there will be no breakfast run in June this year. Here are some Model T's and other fine cars from last year:
