Each can represents about 1 cwt of milk (hundred weight). Not unusual to stack the cans two high and I think that rig will hold more than 20 cans. With time, the cans would wear a ring in the wood decking.
One thing I forgot to ask my ancestors before they all died off: Were these trucks insulated at all, and did they use ice to keep the milk cool or did they rely on swift transport to the creamery to avoid spoilage?
Moving a full can would probably be a great way to build upper body strength. One of the guys that picked up our milk cans prior to our converting to bulk storage could lift one can in each hand and put them up on the 2nd tier where his brother then moved them to the front of the truck.
