Tools: "Valley Electric" Magneto Output Test Meter
Here's the last of the magneto testers. This is an original although repops of this unit are available. This meter was prabaly made in 1915 judging by the dates on the test meter face. Notice the higher reading you would get for a 1915 mag ring with double stack coils as opposed to 1914 when a single stack mag ring was used. I guess you need more poop from the mag to run the new magneto powered headlites. (Jay Buscio)
These were excellent magneto testers since they tested the magneto independent of the RPM. What is wierd is that your pictured tester is verbatim the same as the St. Louis Electric Works Magneto tester yet the makers name and logo is different. It is however made in St. Louis and the meter itself is identical to the STL tester. I wonder if it is the same company but just spun off or something. I have 2 originals of the one I reproduce and they both work excellent. Usually they read below zero when just sitting since the maker used the meter movement zero adjuster to actually set the operate level calibration point. (John Regan)
