Some time in the 1920's when the produce coastal steamer was in town to load produce and unload 'imports' from other NZ towns and cities, possibly from Wellington which was just across the famous Cook Strait. Due to the topography of NZ coastal shipping was much more important than railways for many years as it could shift large loads quickly and cheaply from place to place.
